This was my Thanksgiving table this year. I wanted a shades-of-white table with a pop of green. Although I used it for Thanksgiving, it could be edited to fit any occasion.

Here's my Thanksgiving table. It's fairly simple, but I'm very pleased with it. The hand-stencil turkey was something I made mid-day to distract myself from the smoking oven (no food was burning, the oven just decided to smoke). I think it somehow ties the red of the vase to the oranges in the gourds.

Transform Turkey Leftovers Into Legendary Hot Browns

Like most of you, I relish Thanksgiving leftovers. Stuffing, mashed potatoes, and turkey legs all possess a greater depth of flavor the next day. But white meat turkey always seems to taste worse the following morning. In my mind, consuming leftover turkey breast is up there with finishing day-old fish. To help matters, I decided to try a regional dish I've always wanted to make: the legendary Kentucky Hot Brown. This warm sandwich, created at the Brown Hotel in 1926, is an open-faced wonder of roasted turkey, bacon, and tomatoes on fat toast, drizzled with luscious Mornay sauce. Nearly a century later, there are many variations, but I returned to the original, a move I don't regret. I love how the creamy, nutty Pecorino cheese sauce offsets the lean tone of turkey breast. Here's my Thanksgiving table - I wanted an organic look and feel so I used wood charger plates, woven leaf placemats, linen napkins and wood napkin rings along with some cute little bird condiment cups and leaf serving plates. The centerpiece was just a glass jar that I filled up with wooden pears. The stemware is an amber crackle glass.

My Thanksgiving Table

On the eve of Thanksgiving, after prepping all day, I had everyone go to the park for a nice long walk and while there I had everyone help me find leaves for the table. I found the beautiful branches for our arrangement there as well. So everyone participated, with a little guidance, of course, and I created the look. It was like giving thanks for what nature had given us as well! Enjoy!

Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem may not be from the United States, but they celebrated Thanksgiving with their friend Sean Penn this year. The couple stopped off for gas and drinks before arriving at Penn's house for the holiday feast. Penelope has been busy on the promotional campaign for Broken Embraces and the upcoming Nine, but she always manages to avoid questions about her relationship. Still, there are rumors that she's been wedding dress shopping after being spotted wearing a ring on a certain finger recently. Whether or not that ends up being the case, Penelope and Javier's love of privacy doesn't preclude them from taking in an American family tradition together.

Open House: How Do You Handle Extra Guests in Your Home?

For my family's Thanksgiving, we always rent a couple dining tables and a dozen chairs, move our everyday dining table to the garage, and use our formal dining table as a buffet. When the party's over, my family members crash on every spare bed, couch, or inflatable mattress in the house.

I'm sure a lot of Thanksgiving table conversations involved catching up, since many of us visited with friends and family we don't see that often. "How's you job?" "How was your Summer?" "How's your love life?" That can be fun, awkward, or both!

But once we know what's new, conversations can turn into engaging or heated discussions about politics, the economy, or the latest scandal in pop culture. Then again, maybe your family's like Don Draper and doesn't see the point of talking about politics, religion, or sex. Unlike your average, boring, everyday leftovers, there's something special, almost mythical about Thanksgiving leftovers. People seem to love the leftovers as much as the main meal, and everyone wants to reinvent the turkey, cranberry, and stuffing into a new, exciting, and extraordinary dish. While I'm a huge fan of a classic sandwich or turkey tortilla soup, today I'm craving something more exotic like mashed potato spring rolls!
