Last week we had the pleasure of traveling down to Paradise Island in the Bahamas to check out the grand opening of the Atlantis Resort's new kids club courtesy of JetBlue, Atlantis and LEGO. All week we will be reporting back on what we saw and how it might be suitable for your family. Today, we start with our trip down to the island resort and a few things to consider when booking a flight with tots in tow. Airline travel is not what it used to be, so seeking out an airline that caters to the littlest travelers in your group will make the flight that much more enjoyable for everybody. JetBlue All-You-Can-Fly Passes Sold Out Early

You snooze, you lose. JetBlue's all-you-can-fly pass had its share of haters who questioned its value, but there were more than enough enthusiasts that were gung-ho for the deal. The special passes sold out before the promotion was scheduled to expire, and a JetBlue spokeswoman said, "We wanted to ensure those who bought the pass could get the flights they want, so we capped the number of passes we would sell."

I imagine the passes were popular with business travelers, workers with banked vacation time, and couples in long-distance relationships, and apparently the special brought out some interesting folks who just love to spend time in airports. Time tracked down aerophile and freelance IT consultant Seth Miller who plans to board 10 flights in 60 hours without ever leaving the airport. While JetBlue isn't profiting from people like Miller, overall it expects the promotion will "generate a fair amount of revenue."

JetBlue Launches Summer Sale and Extends Layoff Program

JetBlue's once unique onboard amenities may be overshadowed by Virgin America's, but the "happy jetting" airline often has unbeatable prices. Most recently, JetBlue launched its Hello Summer Sale, with one-way fares from $29 to $129 and over 300,000 seats on sale. You need to book by May 21 for travel between June 2 and Sept. 9, so get cracking on a reservation if you want to score one of JetBlue's Summer deals.

In other JetBlue news, the airline is extending its Promise Program for six more months than it originally planned. The program will now allow ticket refunds through Dec. 31 for passengers who made a purchases before losing their jobs (you must have lost your job after Feb. 17).

JetBlue Will Refund Tickets For Laid Off Workers

So many people could use a helping hand these days, and JetBlue is stepping up to lend one to weary, would-be travelers. If you've flown with the airline with more legroom then you may recall its tickets are typically not refundable. In a business-minded gesture, JetBlue has announced it will refund the tickets of anyone who made a purchase before losing their job as part of The JetBlue Promise Program.

The airline is hoping its increased flexibility will encourage people to book tickets during this uncertain economic time. If you lose your job after Feb. 17 and booked your flight between Feb.1 and June 1, you're eligible to receive a full refund for your JetBlue reservation. The request must be submitted at least two weeks before your scheduled departure date. Do you think the policy will work out for JetBlue?

The Scoop: JetBlue Unveils JetPaws Program

JetBlue wants your furry friends to fly the friendly skies! The airline (which saddened us by raising prices earlier this year), just announced a brand-new program for jetting with your pet. In addition to a downloadable Travel Pettiquette guide, as part of the new JetPaws, customers will receive two TrueBlue customer loyalty program bonus points for each trip – that way your furball can help you earn frequent flier points, whether or not they're invited next time! Also noteworthy is JetBlue's new pet product line – they've got a travel carrier and separate kit (blankie, bone, and travel dish) co-designed by the founder of Jazzy Park Avenue Dog products (and New York Post columnist), Cindy Adams, and some pretty adorable pet shirts, too.

JetBlue Is the Most-Delayed Airline

JetBlue's CEO may have shown his employees that he's a stand-up guy by voluntarily cutting his salary, but the executives of the airline could probably save more money by figuring out a plan for greater efficiency. Research shows that JetBlue was the most-delayed major airline in August, with an on-time arrival rate of 64.7 percent, while the industry average for being on-time was 77.3 percent.

With that kind of failing record, some passengers may be more likely to seek out seats on other airlines. Northwest's on-time arrival record of 85.3 percent outshines JetBlue's August performance, and its punctuality made Northwest the top performer, timing-wise. As for regional carriers, Hawaiian Airlines' 91 percent on-time arrival record makes me want to put on a lei and say aloha!

When All Else Fails - Twitter It!

Happen to be on JetBlue Flight 647 Sunday night, service from JFK to SFO? Two of our Coutorture staffers were - for five and a half hours. No, not airborne; they were stuck on the tarmac. So what did the ladies do after hunger pains ensued and they realized the plane (which by that time had run out of fuel and filled both waste tanks) wasn't going anywhere? They decided to do what any other tech-savvy gal would do: they turned to the social networking service Twitter and started twittering up a storm to JetBlue, who actually responded with jokes, support, and tips for getting on another flight.

Here are some of Julie's thoughts about her Twitter-JetBlue experience:

"Sticking your toe in the Twitter pool can get you in trouble. But we LOVED that the JetBlue Twitter was more responsive than pretty much anyone else at the airport. We couldn’t get an on the ground customer service rep but thanks to our mobile messaging we managed to get through to someone. Twitter is really a pretty great innovation."

And yes, they managed to catch another flight the next morning with Virgin America, finally making it to their final destination, San Francisco. So maybe Twitter didn't help them escape from jail, but it did provide them with some info straight from the source.

The Scoop: JetBlue Doubles Prices for Underseat Pets

All this talk of what the airlines are charging for the details, got me thinking about my lil detail, North. He loves being included in my life – and lets me know when he doesn't feel that way – but, boy, can the price of plane tickets get us down! When looking into a summer trip with my pooch this week, I realized a very shocking (and troubling) fact: JetBlue has doubled the price of a cabin pet from $50 to $100. I spoke with a representative from the airline's corporate communications department who shared some information on this change. Learn what I found out when you read more.

On May 1, 2008, the nonrefundable fee for a high-flying pet became $100 each way. This airline still only allows small pets – weighing up to 20 pounds inside a carrier – to travel under the seat counting as your "personal item." The price change was part of an effort to combat the continual rise in the cost of operation – I was told that a lot of thought was put into this decision, and it could be considered a last resort as the industry is encountering a unique environment because of the price of fuel these days.

The news hits pretty hard, especially considering this airline is known for having some of the lowest one-way fares around – $100 each way could very well put your pet's ticket cost over that of your own! I can definitely understand bringing a doggie or kitty onboard for a big holiday or important trip, but this price point makes it often cheaper and easier to keep pets grounded at a fab boarding facility instead.
