Naturally, it makes sense to book the cheapest flights possible if you're located near more than one major airport, as long it doesn't cost significantly more (in time or money) to get there. But what about layovers? Since I can typically find flights of similar value with a variety of stops, I do have my own penchants when it comes to picking airports — just one bad experience will make me avoid certain connections whenever possible.

Remember the Annie Get Your Gun tune: "Anything you can do I can do better; I can do anything better than you." While competition can stay friendly when we're young, it can become more fierce as we age. Education, opportunity, life circumstances and plain chance change all our lives and some friends find flourishing careers while others flounder, or just get by.

Workplace conflicts are pretty common — even in the most collegial of offices, you’re bound to get a whiff of bad blood or competition between co-workers. And most of the time, these disputes manifest themselves in pretty subtle ways: dirty looks in the hallways, passive-aggressive one-upping in meetings, etc. Then there are the rare instances when a workplace conflict turns into a very public, very real argument.

Admittedly, I tuned into a couple episodes of The Bachelor this season. Not only did I watch pilot Jake fly — "on the wings of love," no less — into Vienna's arms, I got quite a few glimpses of St. Lucia.

I recently joined fellow alumni and current students for a career and networking reception thrown by my alma mater. It's hard to believe so much time has passed between my college days and now — I certainly don't feel that much older. Still, I found myself on the answer end of the question-and-answer session between soon-to-be college graduates and alumni giving career advice.

Most of us don't have oodles of spare time to collect rare stamps or coins and ride horses on the beach, but it seems we should make time for the sake of our health. Health experts say we should devote time daily to a hobby as a means to reduce stress and reduce the risk of developing heart disease. That sounds like a win win to me.

Working with the same people for a while is likely to lead to some office friendships. Sometimes, co-workers become good friends outside the office, and your office time together can translate easily into hanging out on the weekends and away from work — but what if the situation was reversed? What if a good friend wanted to work their way into your life at the office?

We all know that being sedentary for long periods of time isn’t good for our health, but if you work a desk job, you may not have a choice. Some workplaces offer on-site gyms, and others even have standing workstations, but in most offices you’re on your own figuring out ways to keep moving during the day. Of course, if you have a job that requires you to be on your feet, being too sedentary at work is a non-issue.

Do it yourself (DIY) projects have traditionally been reserved for activities like cooking, sewing, and home improvement. Where we feel we can skimp on the expert fees are often in the areas we think don't carry as much weight on our finances. For instance, it's probably not so likely that you'll attempt a legal case on your own, unless of course you have a law degree.

Apple has long been admired for its product innovation, but amid reports this week that an Apple company audit revealed 17 "core violations" with various suppliers, including breaking with child labor laws, I'm hoping the company can help innovate supplier factories. To be clear, I'm not knocking the company, after all, it was a company audit, which revealed and reported the violations. With discoveries that include "falsified records" and "noncompliance with labor standards," by Apple's suppliers, I feel that the report was necessary.
