Today is Ash Wednesday and marks the first day of Lent. Whether you observe it for religious reasons or not, the 40 days offer a feasible time frame to give up a vice and learn to sacrifice in the name of something bigger. I am not a practicing Christian, but I am hereby committing to giving up my unnecessary spending — most notably I won't be driving to work for convenience or clothes shopping — from today until Easter.

We're hosting a 40-day Savvy Savings Challenge in the SavvySugar Community with the hopes of helping one another make smarter choices and build our piggy banks. I've promised to forgo all unnecessary spending — I'm not allowed to drive to work for convenience or clothes shop — for all of Lent. I've invited you all to join in the savings group and make your own sacrifices, and now I want to know how your mission is going.

This update was shared by member HannahNicole, who is participating in our Savvy Savings Challenge and has vowed to give up her pricey Fro-Yo addiction for Lent.
Pheww! Didn't think I could do it, especially when my girlfriends needed a frozen yogurt stop during a walk this weekend, but I resisted.

Yesterday I kicked off a 40-day Savvy Savings Challenge. I've committed to forgo all unnecessary spending — most notably I won't be driving to work for convenience or clothes shopping — for all of Lent. I've invited you all to join in the savings group and make your own sacrifices, and I hope you will because I need cheerleaders (and I want people to celebrate with come Easter!).

I've been with my boyfriend for almost 4 years. I'm a recent college graduate from New Jersey. I just got a job a few weeks ago and he's still in college about to graduate in May.
