I know, I know - but I really like matching my accessories to my outfits and moods... I hang these cell phone purses from my purse, and sometimes, just tuck a bit of money and my driver's license in with my phone and carry instead of a purse.

Your Cell Phone is Not a Boom Box!

I take public transportation to and from work each day, and normally it's a quiet and easy-going experience. However, earlier this week I was heading home and ran into a bit of a snag. It all began when a woman got on the train talking quite loudly on her cell phone. After a few minutes, we headed into a tunnel (which equals no cell service) so she got off the call before she lost reception. I thought things were "back on track" so to speak, until she started blaring a music from her phone! This was an old flip phone - obviously not the best method of listening to your tunes - but she proceeded to let it play, no matter if it was really audible with the noise of the train, or the buzzing and hissing noises that were coming from the speaker from it being turned up too loud. But, you're never going to believe what happened when the person next to her asked her to turn it down!

She began singing along with the track, virtually ignoring her fellow riders request! I was shocked! Besides the fact that there is a rule on our city busses and trains that you have to use headphones when listening to music, this woman showed absolutely no common courtesy to her fellow riders. Lesson to be learned? Don't blast music from your cell phone - it's not a boom box!

Cell Phone Rant: Potty Talk

So far, the Cell Phone Rant group seems to be a cathartic place to unload all your frustrations with the rest of the oblivious cell phone world - in fact, I have even read a couple stories with my mouth agape, and it's pretty hard to surprise me!

My fave new cell phone rant comes to us from MartiniLush, who encountered a gabber in the place we expect a little privacy: The Ladies' restroom.

MartiniLush says: "So, I am at work one day last week and run into the ladies room to do my business. From the stall next to me, I hear someone talking and I am thinking 'wtf?'"

I don't know who I feel weirder for; the people like MartiniLush who had to listen to the conversation while trying to use the restroom in peace, or the person on the other end of the call, who heard the flushes!

Kindergarten cell phone users

What is up with little kids getting cell phones now-a-days? I remember i didn't get my first cell phone till i got a job and payed for it, now six year olds are getting them!?! Who are they gonna call?
Oh its in case they get in an emergency if we aren't there...
Why aren't you there with your little kid, why are you letting them wander around alone where they would need a cell phone? They won't be texting other people unless its about what kind of milk is in their bottle, or who is their favorite power ranger, so be responsible parents!

Sometimes Even Geeks Hang Up the Cell Phone

Make no mistake: I love my cell phone, I love being connected, but I am not a rude person. (Or uh, I try not to be.) I like to think I know when to quit, and save for some especially dramatic situations, I know when to silence and say I'll call back. I'm pretty sure you guys are on the level too, since you reacted smashingly to my new Cell Phone Rant group!

For those moments when some people need more than a meaningful look, you could always put up a sign. Before you balk, check out how clean and classy this No Cell Phones sign from Etsy is. I wouldn't necessarily have a place to hang it in my home (except maybe in the bathroom as a goof), but if you have a business, or are a librarian, or diner owner, let the sign say what should be common sense for others.

Haven't we all been in the movies, enjoying our tub of popcorn, when the jerk in front of you lets his cell phone ring and ring? And then to your shock and horror, he has the nerve to answer it?! And what about when you are strolling the aisles of Target, having a fine time picking out cotton swabs, when a fellow shopper is practically yelling into your ear on her cell about her sister's roommate's boyfriend's divorce? Don't even get me started on folks at the gym, gabbing away as you elliptical, miserably, next to them.

We have all been there, and the best thing to do when you have a rant is to share it. That's why I've created a new geek group, just for venting your stories about someone who pissed you off by either answering their phone at an inappropriate place or time, or someone who TMI'd you at great volume. Earlier this week, we got the ball rolling on our fun best of polls when I asked you: What is your favorite social networking site of 2009? Well now I'm turning the attention to another popular topic of '09 - cell phones! Last year seemed to be all about the iPhone 3G, but this year, we not only got our hands on a new iPhone 3GS, but some pretty fancy BlackBerrys, Android handsets, and impressive smartphones from Palm. There was certainly a lot of pretty new smartphones to choose from, but which one did you like the best?

Cell Citation Notepad Makes You an Officer of Cell Phone Law

It's healthy to vent about rude cell phone users you encounter in the Cell Phone Rant Group, but it's hilarious to give out these Cell Citation Notes ($4.50)!

Write the offender up a ticket detailing what they were doing wrong with their phone (the section for ringtone offenses kills me) and their punishment and hand it to them - I cannot imagine what someone's face would look like as they were reading it.

I think I need to buy this notepad even if I get too shy to use it, but would you hand these out?

Hugh Jackman Has a Cell Phone Rant - Did You?

Last weekend I decided to go to the movies alone. Just me, a small bag of popcorn, and a movie I've been dying to see. A movie that was then interrupted by a ringing cell phone. Seriously? I haven't been to a movie in the past year (at least!) that hasn't featured a "Please silence your cell phones" PSA before it starts. I was in honest disbelief that the phone rang so loudly, and grew angrier when the phone's owner didn't attempt to silence it. Thirty seconds after the ringing stopped and as I tried to re-engage in the movie: "Ding!" a voice mail notification. The audience groaned audibly.

The experience reminded me of a TMZ video I'd seen a few months ago. It features the actors Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig in the middle of a performance of their play, A Steady Rain as the show is interrupted by a ringing phone. Hugh (understandably!) went off on a rant, while somehow keeping his composure enough to remain in character. (You can also check out his rant in the second half of this episode of PopSugar Rush).

There are a few things that can be done in times of grave
emergencies.

Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency
tool for survival.

Check out the things that you can do with it:

FIRST
Emergency

The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112.

If you find
Yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile network and there is an
Emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to
Establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly, this number 112
can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.

SECOND
Have you locked your keys in the car?

Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy
someday.

Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys
In the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on
their cell phone from your cell phone.

Hold your cell phone about a foot
From your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock
button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end.

Your car will
unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you.

Distance is no
object.

You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has
the other 'remote' for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).

How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?

and give them this code.

They will then be able to block your handset
so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally
useless.

You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know

that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either.

would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.
