Papa Joe Simpson tries to cash in on Ashlee’s pregnancy; tabloids yawn

Creepy “daddy don’t touch me” Joe Simpson has backed off pimping out his older daughter now that his younger one, Ashlee, is pregnant and engaged. Hoping to exploit her current
situation and the tabloid magazines’ obsession with celebrity babies, the former minister-turned-manager is already trying to hammer out deals with mags to publish Ashlee and Pete’s wedding photos and pictures of the baby when it’s born. There isn’t even a due date yet, but you can bet Papa Joe is gonna cash in! Problem is, the magazines aren’t all that interested in Ashlee.

Simpson sisters’ dad-ager, Joe Simpson, is trying to cash in on the baby-crazed trend in celebrity magazines - but he’s having a difficult time.

A magazine source said, “Joe is contacting all the weeklies and asking them to pony up $1 million to put Ashlee on the cover.” The news broke this week that Jessica’s younger sibling is pregnant with her now-fiancée Pete Wentz’s child - a claim Wentz has backed off denying.

“The deal would include photos of Ashlee - taken by Joe, of course, so he can make more money - an interview and photos of the baby when she has it,” our source said.

Sadly, there is some interest - but not for anything close to $1 million.

One magazine editor said the pictures would fetch “$60,000 maybe - but definitely not a million. The timing is a little suspicious. Her album [’Bittersweet World’] is dropping next week, and there was little to no interest until now. Ashlee’s lucky she got pregnant, frankly.”

But even with the marriage announcement, “Joe has an unrealistic expectation of what Ashlee can command,” the editor said.

Ashlee’s shotgun wedding to Wentz is expected to take place before summer. Her rep declined to comment.

A source told OK! magazine, “They’re planning on something in the Santa Barbara area probably by the end of May . . . Jessica will be the maid of honor.”

Ashlee is said to be eyeing a Vera Wang dress and will likely wear a ring designed by Wentz.

This wouldn’t be the first time Joe has mucked things up for his daughters. During Jessica’s visit to Africa with the Operation Smile charity two years ago, he insisted on being the only one to take pictures of her, despite having a professional photographer along on the trip - thus making himself the only one to collect the cash when he sold the photos to People magazine.

Joe also undercut Jessica when she did a deal for the launch issue of OK! At the time, it was reported Jessica got a mere $250,000 for the spread - despite Sean Combs getting more than $1 million several weeks later.

Pardon me while I laugh. Ha ha ha! Papa Joe probably fancies himself in the same league as Lynne Spears or Dina Lohan, but the reality is, his daughters just don’t get the same attention, because pretty much everyone in the universe- including the tabloids- are over them both. Personally, I wouldn’t pay $1 to see Ashlee’s wedding or baby photos. On the other hand, I would pay top dollar to sit in the front row of Ashlee and Pete’s divorce court hearings. Papa Joe, if you’re smart, you’ll start selling tickets now.

Jessica Alba plans babymoon with Cash Warren

Jessica Alba is planning an unconventional getaway with new husband Cash Warren - a ‘babymoon’ before she gives birth, according to reports.

The eight-months pregnant star wed her longtime beau Warren in a low-key ceremony at Beverly Hills Courthouse just last week, but have yet to embark upon the traditional post-wedding holiday.

A source tells OK!, “She wants to go on a babymoon vacation before she gives birth. She’s looking forward to lounging on a beach somewhere like Cabo (Cabo San Lucas, Mexico).

“They want to do relaxing couple’s things like get massages - of course hers will be prenatal. She’s trying to spend as much alone time with Cash as she can.”

$750,000 Settlement Saves Johnny Cash Guitars

Bringing a gut-wrenching issue to a conclusion, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum has reached a settlement with the estate of a businessman whose posthumous bankruptcy case could have forced the institution to relinquish historic instruments that formerly belonged to Johnny Cash, Bill Monroe and Mother Maybelle Carter, of the Original Carter Family.

The Hall of Fame filed documents in U.S. Bankruptcy Court Tuesday that would allow the museum to maintain possession of the instruments in exchange for $750,000, payable in full within 30 days after the court approves the settlement.

Bob McLean, a businessman who positioned himself as a philanthropist, had donated a pair of guitars formerly owned by Johnny Cash to the museum. In addition, he presented the organization another $1.5 million, which funded the purchase of Mother Maybelle’s 1928 Gibson guitar and Bill Monroe’s 1923 Gibson mandolin, two stringed pieces that played a major role in the development of country music and bluegrass.

McLean’s finances were built on a so-called "Ponzi scheme" in which investors were bilked out of $67 million over several years. McLean committed suicide this fall, leaving his estate to sort out the mess. The instruments are a perfect fit with the Hall of Fame’s mission, but the investors were clearly entitled to recoup as much of their investments as possible.

"Recovering gifts made to a non-profit organization poses a unique set of issues," estate trustee Robert Waldschmidt says. "Everyone involved in this lawsuit was sensitive to the historical significance of the instruments involved. However, the interests of the creditors in this bankruptcy proceeding, many who lost their life savings, could not be ignored either. This resolution is a fair compromise, and will benefit the bankruptcy estate and its creditors, while preserving the Museum’s collection of instruments."

The four instruments at issue in the case are currently displayed in a museum exhibit titled The Precious Jewel, named after a song associated with Hall of Famer Roy Acuff.

Tim McGraw’s manager, Scott Siman, and Museum Chairman Steve Turner are enacting a fundraising campaign to finance the settlement, which is already being backed by a loan from the Music Row branch of the SunTrust Bank. Jessica Alba, Cash Warren Celebrate Commitment at Weekend Reception

Jessica Alba and husband Cash Warren's families came together for the first time on Friday to celebrate the couple at their Beverly Hills home.

Though they officially wed last summer, Friday’s event served as a formal reception to "celebrate their love and commitment to each other," a partygoer told Usmagazine.com.

Guests, including newlywed Without a Trace Star Roselyn Sanchez, were asked to arrive before 7 p.m.

At the event, both Alba and Warren spoke about their relationship before turning things over to their fathers, who each expressed happiness over the union of the two families. Later, a mariachi band played.

"There were no tears," the partygoer said, "just lots of happiness and love. It felt extremely special for everyone."

The partygoer added that it was Warren's speech, which detailed his pride in his wife and their daughter, that made guests especially emotional.

Before the reception took place, a source said that it would likely be "very romantic" and that tents were already up a day before the event.

"Jessica is so excited," the source told Us before the event. "This is such a happy time in their lives." Adding to their excitement was daughter, Honor, 6 months, who joined the party wearing a gray dress -- designed to exactly match Alba's -- with angel wings attached.

The pair exchanged vows for the first time on May 19 in the Beverly Hills courthouse's ceremony room. The couple had gotten engaged after announcing that Alba was pregnant with their daughter.

"She doesn't want to be pregnant in a dress," a source told Us back in December 2007, which might have explained the couple's privacy with the initial wedding.

Alba, 27, and Warren, 29, met on the set of Fantastic Four in 2004 (Warren was the assistant to the film's director).

Yesterday's reception took place at their newly remodeled $4 million Beverly Hills home.

"It's a lot of stress to buy a house, have a baby and get married in six months," she has said. "It's a lot of life-changing decisions. I'm really, really secure and happy in my relationship."

NBA star Baron Davis, who has known Cash Warren since childhood, says he was ecstatic to meet his friend's newborn daughter with wife Jessica Alba.

"Oh, I couldn't wait to see them after the baby was born," Davis, who is also Warren's business partner in Verso entertainment, tells PEOPLE exclusively. "They are the picture-perfect happy family."

As for who baby Honor Marie takes after, he jokes: "Honor has their looks and my personality. All she did was yell." Then he adds, "No, seriously, she is a beautiful baby girl. She totally takes after Jessica."

And, he says the new parents are on cloud nine. "Cash is over the moon and I couldn't be happier for them both. They deserve every happiness. I know they are going to be wonderful parents."

A conman cashes in on fake Ellen DeGeneres wedding registry

con artist has cashed in on Ellen DeGeneres’ wedding news by setting up a hoax gift registry at top store Crate & Barrel.

DeGeneres revealed her plans to wed partner Portia De Rossi during her daytime show on Thursday - a day after samesex marriages were declared legal in California.

The comic joked that the couple’s gift list would be with Crate & Barrel and one hoaxer chose to use the line to deceive gullible fans.

She says, “I was joking when I released a statement saying we registered at Crate & Barrel.

“Some scam artist tried to take advantage of that and register and said the gifts are going to be sent to me and some people started already buying gifts… and sending (them to) this person.”

DeGeneres insists she and De Rossi do not want wedding gifts.

Hugh Grant & Elizabeth Hurley win cash payout over vacation pictures

Hugh Grant and his ex-girlfriend Elizabeth Hurley have won $116,000 in damages for invasion of privacy, after they were photographed on holiday in a private resort in the Maldives.

Grant, model Hurley and her businessman husband Arun Nayar filed suit against photo agencies Big Pictures Limited and Eliot Press SARL last year, when snaps of the trio on vacation were published in a number of British newspapers.

Laura Tyler, the lawyer representing Grant, Hurley and Nayar, appeared at London’s High Court on Thursday morning, when she told Mr Justice Eady that the pictures had been taken covertly and without her clients’ knowledge. She also argued that the claimants had chosen the resort because it offered them complete privacy and seclusion.

She told the court: “It has been most upsetting for the claimants to have their privacy invaded by these defendants.”

The photos were later printed in the News of the World and The Mail on Sunday newspapers, as well as a number of celebrity magazines.

In addition to the cash for damages, the claimants will receive some money towards their legal costs from the two photo agencies, and agency bosses apologised for any distress their actions may have caused.

Further contributions will also be made by the News of the World’s publisher News Group Newspapers, and Associated Newspapers, which prints The Mail on Sunday.

After dinner with pals – including hair stylist Ken Paves – at Hollywood hotspot Katsuya last night, the pop singer hardly had enough money to pay the valet.

While digging around her oversized Louis Vuitton handbag for a few minutes, Simpson cheered every time she pulled out a dollar – until finally producing a crumpled pile of cash.

"Here!" she yelled, as Paves handed over the bills. "Here’s a wad of cash," he added.

All the while, Simpson kept her trademark oversized grin.

Did Cash Pop The Question?

There were rumors abound earlier this year that Cash Warren did, indeed, propose to Jessica Alba and gifted her with a fat engagement ring. Suddenly, with news of her pregnancy coming to light yesterday, I’m suddenly wondering if the engagement ring has been promoted to a wedding band. Say it IS so, Jessica! After perusing through Jessica’s pictures from yesterday’s post and glancing at her left hand, the ring she was sporting came into question. Wait a sec…is that the rumored engagement ring or something else? It looked too thick to be an engagement ring (I know of no woman who would ever have that thick a band for their engagement ring), but it could be two rings combined. Oye, the questions that swirl around a jewelry-obsessed blogger! So maybe Jessica is engaged. Or maybe she’s already married to Cash. What we do know is that she’s pregnant and that she’s wearing an engagement/wedding ring look-alike on her wedding finger. That’s what I know and that’s what you now know. Good times to all!
