Mexico blasts Forbes for putting drug lord on list

MEXICO CITY – Mexico is decrying Forbes Magazine's decision to include the reputed leader of one of the country's most violent drug cartels on its list of billionaires.

Forbes ranks Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, with an estimated $1 billion fortune, at No. 701 - between a Swiss oil-trading tycoon and an American chemical heir.

Guzman, Mexico's most-wanted fugitive, is believed to head the Sinaloa cartel.

President Felipe Calderon said Thursday that "magazines are not only attacking and lying about the situation in Mexico but are also praising criminals."

Mexico's Attorney General Eduardo Medina Mora said Forbes is defending crime by "comparing the deplorable activity of a criminal wanted in Mexico and abroad with that of honest businessmen."

Forbes Power List: Angelina Jolie No. 3; Brad Pitt No. 10

Angelina Jolie is more powerful than beau Brad Pitt, according to Forbes' annual Power List, which ranks celebrities on money and fame.

Oprah Winfrey topped the the list for the second year in a row with a media empire that earned her $275 million.

Pitt's ex Jennifer Aniston came in at No. 17.

Notable newcomers included Hills star Lauren Conrad (#97), Sex and the City's Sarah Jessica Parker (#72), singer/designer Gwen Stefani (#63) and Tina Fey (#99).

Newlyweds Beyonce and Jay-Z ranked No. 4 and No. 7 respectively. (See the complete list below.)

Miley Cyrus (#35); Zac Efron (#92), and the Jonas Brothers (#89) accounted for teens on this year's list.

Celebs that fell off the list? New mom Jessica Alba, Jessica Simpson, Scarlett Johansson and Adam Sandler.

Heidi Klum, who graces the cover of the magazine, opened up about getting dissed early on in her modeling career. (See Klum and other stars in bikinis here.)

"My booker said I wasn't good enough [for Victoria's Secret] and I said, 'It's great that you think that, but I want them to tell me that,' Klum told Forbes.

She also talked about dabbling in acting, saying, "As a model, you never get taken seriously, and maybe you shouldn't."

Forbes names Paris Hilton as ‘most overexposed celebrity’

File this one under “DUH!” Forbes Magazine has just released its list of the 10 most overexposed celebrities, and not surprisingly, Paris Hilton sits atop that list. Once the tabloid “it” girl, Paris is now regarded as little more than filler when it’s a slow gossip day. She can be counted on for doing or saying something stupid, but other than that, nobody really cares about her anymore. Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan are close behind on the list.

According to studies by Encino, Calif.-based E-Poll Market Research, which provides appeal rankings for more than 3,000 celebrities, 70% of the U.S. population would use the term “overexposed” to describe Paris Hilton, up slightly from a year earlier. To put that in perspective, most celebrities average between 3% and 7% on the E-Poll index during the peak of their careers.

Consider pop tart Britney Spears, whose every move from club-hopping to head-shaving has grabbed gobs of tabloid ink. But rather than earn her adoration, the recent media onslaught has resulted in eye rolls. And worse.

I’d say this list is pretty accurate- although I would not have included Michael Jackson, and Kim Kardashian should be higher up on the list. I am so sick of her “over the shoulder, show off my butt” pose on every red carpet in L.A. Michael Jackson is beyond overexposed- he’s a has-been. At one time, his scary face was on every tabloid on the world on a daily basis; now, poor Mike probably has to pay someone to take his freaky picture. And while I do concede that Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt are overexposed (do I really need to provide a link to those Easter photos? Nauseating!), I refuse to believe that they are actual celebrities. Which brings up a new question not covered by Forbes: at what point does a person make the transition from reality show curiosity to bonafide celeb? Maybe that should be the topic of their next poll.

Someone seriously has WAY too much time on their hands. Yet, I still bite, time and time again. This time it's Forbes coming up with on of these great and totally random lists. They just named the top 10 Hollywood mavericks. In no particular order the celebs who made the list are:

I was actually a little bit surprised to see Katherine Heigl on there. But, Madonna, a maverick??? SHOCKING.

If the perennial rumors about the death of the music business are true, nobody's told The Police. Or Beyoncé. Or Madonna.

Indeed, though there's no denying music's old business model has taken a massive hit in recent years--blame it on piracy, the Web or the advent of the recordable CD--there's still plenty of money to be made in the music industry.

In fact, the 10 stars on our list of the world's top-earning musicians raked in a combined $500 million between June 1, 2007 and June 1, 2008, thanks in large part to lucrative tours, endorsement contracts and all-encompassing deals. ( Hip-hop stars have been ranked separately.)

Topping the list: The Police, who banked $115 million over the course of the year, proving the big money is made on the road rather than in the recording studio.

Once famous for not getting along, the timeless rockers reunited in 2007 to perform their early hit "Roxanne" at the Grammy Awards. From there, the band fronted by Sting set out on a sold out and highly lucrative five-continent reunion tour. Some 400 fans, both young and old, forked over a collective $200 million in tickets to see the trio perform. Not bad for a trio that got their start in the late-1970s.

Singer-turned-brand Beyoncé Knowles comes in second, raking in $80 million during the 12-month period.

Once a Destiny's Child group member, the Houston native went solo in 2003 and has since released two platinum albums. She's also built a successful entertainment empire that includes fashion, film and publishing deals. She has found still more time to sell $50 million in tickets on a recent tour, take a lead role as Etta James in the upcoming flick Cadillac Records and shill for a slew of brands, including L'Oréal, American Express (nyse: AXP - news - people ) and an Armani fragrance.

Nabbing the third spot on our list is sometimes controversial--and always popular-- Toby Keith, who earned $48 million this past year. The country music star, famous for songs like "How Do You Like Me Now?" and "Beer for my Horses ," reached the impressive sum with lengthy concert tours, a lucrative endorsement deal with Ford Motor (nyse: F - news - people ) and a chain of successful restaurants that bare his name. The patriotic rocker writes all of his own songs and owns his recording label as well.

Justin Timberlake comes in fourth with earnings of $44 million.

Like his peers, the boy bander turned tabloid staple has diversified his brand, dabbling in music (2 million fans paid $100 million to see his latest tour), commercials (appeared in a Pepsi (nyse: PEP - news - people ) Super Bowl commercial), fashion (co-founded fashion label William Rast) and hospitality (co-owns restaurants Destino and Southern Hospitality). The "Sexy Back" star also signed a development deal with MTV and heads his own music label.

Rounding out the top five is Madonna, who took home $40 million during the year.

The onetime material girl has capitalized on her talent and bold-face name by cutting a mega deal with concert promotions giant Live Nation (nyse: LYV - news - people ), worth a reported $120 million over 10 years. The deal encompasses Madonna's future music and music-related businesses, including touring, albums, merchandising, DVDs and music-reality film and TV projects.

Not bad for heavyweights of an industry on the decline.

First Parade.com names Tyra Banks the hardest working person in showbusiness, and now Forbes has named her the top earning woman in television! What happened to Oprah?

The poll ranked the women based on their earnings, including salary and endorsement deals, between June 2007 and June 2008. And what do ya know, Ty-Ty wins the grand prize with her $23 million she raked in last year. Here's the top ten:

Forbes Names Will Smith Highest Paid Actor

Forbes has released their latest list for the highest-paid actor in Hollywood, and this year's winner is Will Smith. The list is based on who banks the most between June 1st 2007 through June 1st 2008.

Will made $80 million last year, beating out Johnny Depp, who made $74 million, and Eddie Murphy, who made $55 million.

Other guys who made the list are Will Ferrell, Bruce Willis, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Stiller, and Adam Sandler. Do you think they're worth it?

Forbes Names Savviest Celebs

There are new celebrity lists every day, and now Forbes has come up with one more: The Savviest Celebrities of '07.

I don't know how one distinguishes one person's savviness from another, but Forbes thinks it has to do with deals you make, and, ultimately, money. Shocker.

On the list was Jennifer Aniston, who has been the face of Smart Water for over a year. There must be something in that water, because it made her $10 million.

Madonna continues to top herself year after year, and 2007 was no different. Her biggest deal this year was the $120 million she got when she signed with Live Nation.

Also on the list are the models that have shown us the brains behind their beauty. Tyra, with 'America's Next Top Model' and her own talk show, Gisele Bundchen, (famous for dating Tom Brady?), and Heidi Klum, who turns everything she touches into gold.

Madonna is the richest woman in music, according to Forbes.

She earned $72 million between June 2006 and June 2007, thanks to her album sales, merchandising and broadcast deals, endorsements, H&M fashion line and Confessions tour, which grossed $260 million.

Her global Confessions tour pulled in another $260 million.

Britney Spears ranked 14th on the list, earning $8 million from old hits royalties and sales of her fragrances with Elizabeth Arden, which grossed $55.4 million in 2006.

Forbes names most bankable teen stars

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Attending Hogwarts has really paid off for the stars of the "Harry Potter" films. They now top the Forbes list of the most bankable teenage actors. The Warner Brothers franchise has earned a total of $4.3 billion, making Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint the most bankable teens. They're followed by Dakota Fanning, who's films have earned a whopping $2 billion. Kristen Stewart takes the number three spot with $1.5 billion. Her "Twilight" co-star, Taylor Lautner is fourth with $900 million. And rounding out the top five is Abigail Breslin whose movies have pulled in $516 million. (Copyright ©2010 KABC-TV/DT.
