Couple Sets Up PayPal For Wedding Gifts: Brilliant or Baffling?

Most of you were baffled when a broke bride-to-be asked strangers to contribute to her wedding fund via her Help Me Pay For My Wedding! website. But what if the woman was only targeting her family and friends?

Another bride-to-be, Vanessa Caldwell, has created a PayPal site where guests invited to her November wedding can give the couple money - even by charging their credit cards. Instead of creating a typical wedding website where guests can go to find details about accommodations and day-of details, they developed Dollarforawedding.com and announced its existence on Facebook.

The couple has received about $750 so far and Caldwell defends the idea saying, "We weren't trying to have a lavish wedding; this wasn't a get rich plan. This was just to help us with a small intimate wedding with no more than 75 people." Some guests may have given the couple cash anyway and wouldn't be bothered by the PayPal suggestion, while others might be offended by the presumptuous nature of the request. What do you think of the idea; is it brilliant or baffling?

99 Cents Only Store Weddings Cost $0.99 On 9/09/09

Novelty dates are always popular for people getting hitched. The date 7/07/07 was especially hot because it was a Saturday, but yesterday got its fair share of nuptial attention thanks in part to the 99 Cents Only Store. In honor of 9/09/09, The 99 Cents Only Store chain hosted weddings for nine couples at its Sunset Boulevard branch.

The newlyweds paid $0.99 at the register and were then presented with $99 and 99 cents in cash, before being taken to an undisclosed "famous romantic Los Angeles" location. Congrats to the happy couples!

A friend of mine just returned from a three-week vacation that spanned seven countries, and it all kicked off with a wedding in southern France. She made the most of her long-distance trip by turning the single event into a full-blown vacation, smart girl.

It's certainly going the distance for a pal to attend a wedding overseas. I've never had the opportunity to attend an international wedding, but I've flown cross-country for nuptials. What's the farthest you've traveled?

Your Two Cents: Should Couples Expect Wedding Gifts?

Wedding etiquette is remarkably touchy and unfortunately complex in some social circles. Some of the tension is centered in the gift-giving ritual, which is a way for guests to help the couple complete their home together.

According to a survey by market research company GfK, 90 percent of people who attended weddings in the past two years said they bought gifts, while just 28 percent of couples said they expected to receive them. Some respondents suggested it's rude to assume guests will give gifts, while others don't think it's fair to the couple if a gift isn't given.
