When you work 40 to 50 hours a week finding free time for volunteer efforts can start to feel like a luxury.
In the past I've underestimated what I have to offer charities or nonprofits, but it's clear that just a few hours can help understaffed organizations provide their basic service: helping those who need it. While the Peace Corps is a one-of-a-kind program that has been known to instill positive change in its participants, not everyone is able to commit two years away from their established lives or afford to give up her paycheck. If you're someone with a big heart and prefers to give back with time rather than money, but have little room in your calendar for volunteering, then you may consider pursuing a volunteer opportunity through the company who signs your paychecks. Seek out an organization that interests you and find out how you can lend your extra time.

It's a troubling time for the publishing industry, and the largest US company of them all, Time Inc., is reacting by cutting jobs from its magazines. Time has asked for 100 volunteers from its editorial staff at a handful of publications, including Time, People, and Sports Illustrated, to volunteer to give up their jobs.
Volunteers would of course leave with severance packages (terms undisclosed to the media).

The holiday season isn't just about gift-giving — even while the budget may be stretched, it's also the time of year to give to charity. It's no secret that things are tight this year. Don't let a case of the Mondays get you down — think of Monday morning as a chance for a fresh start with a clean slate to set new goals. Viewing the new week like you might view the New Year is a great way to make the most of your work week. Even better than a New Year's resolution, a new week resolution — with a very real time restriction — will help you to keep the goals realistic.

On this week's Rachel Zoe Project, Rachel makes a questionable management move and invites Brad and Taylor to Paris before realizing one of them is going to have to stay behind at the studio. When she becomes aware of her mistake, she tells them they should decide amongst themselves who will go, thinking Brad will volunteer to stay home.
