My husband and I have had separate accounts since we got married and each month we both contribute some amount from our paychecks for group expenses like rent, bills, and food but the rest of the money stays in our perspective bank accounts as fun money and savings. We both save quite bit but since we have some wiggle room with our fun money, I think maybe we could save even more.

Emerging from the recession, it's clear that most of us have learned a valuable lesson — it pays big to save, and save big where you can. With tools like Mint.com it's easier than it used to be to save and manage our money, watching our paychecks grow into savings.
We're less prone to impulse purchases, which often means we've got more than just long-term savings goals.

We get by with a little help from our friends, and we should budget with a little help from our friends too. Attempting to be thrifty while pals blow money on lavish gifts and dinners can be a mood and friend killer. You want to eat dinner at a deli and watch a movie on the expensive cable you pay for, while they want champagne and first-class entertainment.

SavvySugar reader Lauren recently asked a thought-provoking question in our newest community group, SavvySugar Q and A: What percentage of your paycheck do you save?
Many budgeters focus on reverse, envelope, or to-the-dollar budgeting, but thinking about savings in terms of percentage can be tremendously effective. Do you know your stats or have a percentage of salary saved goal?
