Jennifer Aniston made the switch from Jennifer Anastassakis, Marilyn Monroe dropped Norma Jean Baker, and so many other celebrities changed their names when they hit Hollywood. Some of them do it because someone famous already has the same name, but for others, making the choice to go by another name is part of managing their personal brands and making themselves more marketable. Would you do the same or would you keep the name you were given?

It's an effective way to differentiate yourself by zoning in on how you can add value to a company. Your message and image should be consistent — if you're interviewing with multiple people at one company, a flip flopping brand would give the impression that you don't know what are your strengths. People always hate writing cover letters because they don't know where to start — a personal brand is the answer and it's what you want to convey in that first piece of communication with a prospective employer.

Keeping up with career and job market terms is key to staying ahead. I grew up reading the comics as my dad sat across from me and clipped grocery coupons on Sunday mornings, so I've never been one to judge those who use them. There are some people who are embarrassed to shop with coupons, and even in our slow-as-molasses economy, self-conscious shoppers are still projecting their feelings onto coupon-using shoppers.
One study found that people waiting in line thought shoppers using low-value coupons were cheap, and that sentiment was carried over to the person in line behind the coupon holder.

If you didn't think Donald and his biz reality show, The Celebrity Apprentice, had staying power, guess again: Episodes in 2009 will not only exist, they'll be twice as long. That's right, two hours of competitive drama every Thursday, beginning March 1. I can't say that I'm thrilled at the extended show time, but the cast is certainly eclectic and I'll be interested to see how the members interact.
