One of the few long weekends of Summer has come and gone, and it's such a bummer to see it go. Offices tend to be quieter during these warm months as employees take vacations; it's hard not to get antsy when you're one of the workers left at your desk.
The first thing I do after a long weekend is make a list — it puts me on track and helps me focus for the day ahead.

We're starting to switch gears to 2009, but last year was a big one and 2008 is hardly a distant memory at this point. A Gallup poll asked Americans who they admired most in 2008 and the results are varied and interesting.
For the seventh year in a row, Hillary Clinton was ranked as the most admired woman, and Sarah Palin ousted second place incumbent Oprah Winfrey in the 2008 list.

While being a supermodel is hands-down out of the question for most of us, Heidi Klum's business sense is something that can inspire and motivate any working girl. She's smiling on the cover of InStyle's December issue and inside the magazine she spells out her five rules for success. The rule below is my favorite.

Hillary Clinton, Nicole Kidman, Condoleezza Rice, and Jane Goodall were just some of the remarkable women honored at Glamour's 2008 Women of the Year awards Monday night. The rewarded ladies were recognized for their various accomplishments and contributions, from trailblazing opportunities to spreading environmental awareness.
Glamour asked its readers to nominate their own personal heroes for a Woman of Your Year contest, and the winner was 25-year old cancer survivor Rachel Lozano who battled the disease throughout her teenage years.

What started out as a small government initiative for working women is now an event attended by thousands and draws only the most inspirational voices to speak. The 2008 Women's Conference was held in Long Beach, CA yesterday, hosted by Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The all-day conference drew a crowd of 14,000 international women from various professional walks of life and 60 speakers aiming to "empower and inspire women to become architects of change."

Not only does Dunder Mifflin have its own website, but all of the characters on The Office have their own motivational posters. While most of them are brilliantly random, the only real motivation I feel is to watch the season premiere this week and they make me vaguely sentimental for my middle school's nurse's office that featured oddly placed posters just like these. Check out their motivational posters when you hit start slideshow — which one is your favorite?

In last night's episode of Mad Men, Bobbie Barrett made turning possibilities into opportunities seem easy when she told Don, "Pick a job and become the person who does it." Have you been able to tackle the working world in this way, or did you fall into your job without intention?
