Twenty-six-year-old writer Amit Chatwani has never been a banker (he's an ex-strategy consultant), but after college he lived with a group of investment banker types in NYC and created Leveraged Sell-Out, a hilarious blog where he chronicled his hate for banking and finance culture.
The blog inspired Amit's new book, Damn, It Feels Good to Be a Banker ($12), which is available for presale and is a pleasant departure from the usually somber finance book genre.
The Leveraged Sell-Out in the book (also known as "LSO" or "Logan") is a 24-year old financier, who like Amit, attended Princeton University.

Los Angeles-based performance artist Hillary Carlip believes our shopping lists are like mirrors to our personalities and style.
NPR featured an entertaining profile of Hillary, who has dedicated her life to searching for and decoding shopping lists she finds around town, and then turning them into characters.
Hillary began collecting lists when she was 15 and found a list for Twizzlers, peanut brittle, and gum on the back of a dental appointment reminder card in NYC.

Not all travel sites are guaranteed to deliver happy, helpful, money-saving experiences. Many of you are all about Kayak.com and your judgment is good — the editors of Budget Travel call the website "The all-time best site for finding the cheapest plane tickets in the US." If that's not love, I don't know what is.

Dear Savvy,
I have a friend who just "invested" into this MTM (like Amway) business. He's been posting about it all over Facebook and trying to convince his friends and family to join. He claims that it's legit and "it's early on, so you're guaranteed to make money."

An excellent credit score will get you the best interest rates, so you want to ensure lenders will see your score at its very best. You already know that it's a bad idea to apply for new credit in the months leading up to applying for a loan, but CNN Money has another tip regarding the credit cards you already own.
To play it safe, they recommend keeping your cards under wraps during the month before you know you'll be applying for a loan and explain that, "Even if you pay off your balances at the end of the month, there's a chance a lender might pull your score the day before those payments are recorded, making it look as though you're tapping your credit."
