US Airways Loves Its No-Free-Drinks Policy US Airways may be the only carrier to charge for nonalcoholic drinks, but after reports of how beneficial the change has been, I wouldn't be surprised if other airlines pick up the policy. Flight attendants were initially resistant to the pay-for-drinks policy, and now it seems many of them are changing their tune about the $2 rule. In-flight bathroom lines are shorter because fewer passengers are guzzling beverages, trash collection is less of a hassle, and aisles spend less time being blocked by the beverage cart.

JetBlue Is the Most-Delayed Airline JetBlue's CEO may have shown his employees that he's a stand-up guy by voluntarily cutting his salary, but the executives of the airline could probably save more money by figuring out a plan for greater efficiency. Research shows that JetBlue was the most-delayed major airline in August, with an on-time arrival rate of 64.7 percent, while the industry average for being on-time was 77.3 percent. With that kind of failing record, some passengers may be more likely to seek out seats on other airlines.

News Flash: Southwest Airlines Is Not Invincible Yes, it's true, America's friendliest airline is reporting it is not as financially sound as previously stated. Southwest has announced it will cut 200 flights in 2009, representing about six percent of its regular daily flight schedule. The reduced schedule won't stop the airline from flying out of the 60 airports it currently uses, but the cuts will reduce frequency of flights on most routes.

Check in ASAP to Keep Your Seat If you're involuntarily bumped from a domestic flight and land two or more hours after your original arrival time, airlines owe you cash compensation up to $400. The New York Times suggests if you have time to spare and volunteer to hop on the next available flight, you should negotiate for the maximum in-flight vouchers. Getting bumped doesn't sit well with all travelers, so for the best chance of keeping your seat, check in as early as possible.
