A few years ago I was cruising the purse department at Nordstrom and overheard a sweet-looking lady in her 70s call her husband over to pay for her goodies while she told the salesgal, "he doesn't get any honey unless he shows me the money." I immediately burst into laughter. Still, as silly as it sounds, maintaining a healthy attitude about finances in a long-term relationship requires a balance of humor, clear communication, and shared expectations.

Nobody wants a customer service experience that leaves you swearing under your breath, but these situations aren't exactly avoidable. MSN Money knows how important customer service is to consumers and conducts an annual survey that measures customer satisfaction.
It's named 10 companies that need a lot of improvement in the customer service department and 10 that would be good examples to the companies in the Hall of Shame.

Have you ever purchased something full price and returned to the store a day later to find the very same item on sale? Before you try something complicated like returning it and buying it again, ask if the company honors price adjustments. Most major retails offer refunds to the current price if you bring your receipt back to the store within 14 days.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday have come and gone, but there's one more shopping holiday before the official days of merriment arrive. Thursday, December 18, is the first ever FreeShipping day, organized by the website FreeShipping.org. While we're usually punished with premium shipping fees when we procrastinate, dozens of retailers have agreed to waive shipping fees when you shop online this Thursday.

In a matter of a few months, Macy's, Bloomingdale's, Filene's, Lord & Taylor, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, and Saks Fifth Avenue will be giving away $175 million in free cosmetics including makeup and fragrances. This isn't a gesture of generosity but the terms of a class action settlement.
According to The Boston Globe, the department stores and cosmetics companies "conspired to sell products at the manufacturers' suggested price only - never at a discount.

According to a recent report from TNS Retail Forward, a retail consulting company, a greater percentage of women have planned to reduce their spending from the same time last year compared to men. Stores that for the most part rely on women's apparel sales, like Nordstrom, Sears, Kmart, Limited Brands, JCPenney, Macy's, Gap Inc. and Kohl's, are especially feeling the cut back in American's spending.
