There's a new credit card on the borrowing scene, and this one is backed by a surprising, social-networking sponsor. MySpace has teamed up with Citi in launching a card with its logo as part of a "Generation Forward" campaign. The card is being marketed as "the credit card that rewards you for doing the right thing," offering perks like a .25 percent APR reduction after three months to active users who stay under their credit line and pay on time.

Stretching the truth isn't always a terrible thing, but five Oklahoma University students and alumni are facing expensive consequences from doing just that. The group headed up Kegheadz and created a MySpace video with the intent of promoting their party services, and after the video was viewed by the Oklahoma Tax Commission the guys got hit with a heavy tax bill.
In their video, the Kegheadz founders bragged about serving over one billion partygoers as a way to generate buzz.

Dear Savvy,
I was considering applying for a job in the online social media industry, but got turned off when I noticed the listing asks for a cover letter, resume, writing and blog samples, and a Facebook page link. I'm fully aware that employers use Facebook and Google to research candidates, but I don't like the fact that they want to scope me out before they meet me. I'm smart, qualified, have relevant experience and I have a fairly normal Facebook, but would feel funny sharing it with a potential employer.

In He's Just Not That Into You, Drew Barrymore plays Mary, an ad saleswoman who is looking for love and all of the above while navigating the confusing intersection of dating and technology. Mary is outgoing and honest about her trials and romantic interests and openly discusses her crushes with co-workers (she even shows them MySpace pics) while at the office. While I understand sharing personal details with your work BFF, most employers aren't thrilled when employees gab and compare romantic notes on the job.

My last job had a very strict Internet firewall that became increasingly exclusive every year I worked there. When I started, we had no access to outside email or social network sites like Facebook and MySpace, and those restrictions were manageable. Then came the ban on most recreational sites that focused on things like cooking and sports, and towards the end of my time there they had banned the entire Sugar Network!

I'll admit that I've never joined MySpace, Facebook, LinkedIn, or any other social site — what can I say, I'm loyal to TeamSugar! Besides using the sites to keep up with friends and meet new ones, a lot of people use them for professional networking. They can be great resources for connecting with other people in your field, and staying in touch with old co-workers that have moved on and could be useful contacts in the future.
