Forbes Ranks the 100 Most Powerful Women in the World

For the sixth year in a row, Forbes has rounded up its list of the world's most powerful women. It measures influence by scoring each female leader on visibility (not to be mistaken for popularity) and the size of the organization or country these women lead. The top spot remains unchanged from the previous three years, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel sits at number one of 100 for leading the fourth largest economy in the world.

Notable American newcomers to the 2009 rankings include Michele Obama who debuted at number 40 (just ahead of Oprah Winfrey at 41 and Britain's Queen Elizabeth at 42); Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor at 54; Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius at 56; Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano at 51; and Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Mary Schapiro at 55. You'll Be Surprised by These Six-Figure Jobs

You can't judge a job by its salary, and it seems the reverse is also true. You might never guess that some workers are taking home such sizable paychecks, so Forbes came up with a fun list of the most surprising six-figure jobs in the U.S.

Data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' Occupational Employment and Wage Estimates was used to compile the list, and at least 10 percent of workers in each job must have earned more than $100,000 last year to make the cut. The 15 jobs Forbes deemed as surprisingly high-earners are below.

Forbes used the same factors to evaluate which cities are bargains as it did to determine the ones that are overpriced. It analyzed the 50 largest U.S. metropolitan areas in terms of the average salary for residents with at least bachelor degrees, annual unemployment statistics, cost of living, and housing affordability based on local median income.

Getting the most for your money is even more appealing in this economic environment, and a true bargain makes you feel like you're getting a much needed break. Shocker: New York Is Not the Most Overpriced US City

Dollar signs are often associated with New York City, and while nobody is arguing it's pricey, Forbes says the Big Apple is not the most overpriced.

Forbes factored together the average salary for residents with at least bachelor degrees, annual unemployment statistics, cost of living, and housing affordability based on local median income to determine the most overpriced cities in the US.
