What began as an investigation of a solo shoplifting incident led to the arrest of an 18 person crime ring in Florida on Friday. The thieves stole an array of health and beauty items and police estimate they stole between $60 and $100 million worth of products. The items were sold on eBay or at flea markets, which makes me think about the origin of items I've purchased on eBay!

When it comes in the form of credit cards, plastic is dramatic. There are always consumers in the news discussing how they've been mistreated by a credit card carrier, and there seems to be an endless stream of hidden policies that rear their harmful heads when customers least expect it.

Dear Savvy,
My boyfriend and I have been going out for four years, and we both just graduated from college and entered the real world. I took a job in Washington State while he's training with the Navy in Florida. Ask any career coach, interviewer, friend, or even stylist, and they'll tell you confidence is the number one thing that will give you an edge and make you stand out. Traditionally, confidence before an interview comes from thorough preparation, conviction that you have what it takes, and an outfit that makes you look the part, but a recent study suggests you might want to add a step to your pre-interview checklist.
According to a new study published in the journal Psychological Science, counting cash "can reduce emotional and physical pain as well as increase feelings of internal strength, fearlessness and confidence."

This Summer there are bargains to be had on pretty much everything, but I'm most excited about the reduced cost of travel. Forbes is pumped about it, too, and a panel of travel experts compiled a list of the 10 best bargain vacations. In order to be considered for a place on the list, each destination must have been suggested by at least two panelists.

News flash: California is not the only state experiencing budget problems. Its expansive economy and furloughed government workers may get it a spot in business headlines, but other states are also struggling with shortfalls. According to The Wall Street Journal and the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, "at least 47 states are facing significant shortfalls in their 2009 and/or 2010 budgets."
