Sep 21 2009 - 4:30am You might think a ranking of the world's most valuable brands is just another meaningless list, but look closer and you can see that these brands and their worth say a lot about our global culture. It would be a safe bet to say the majority of citizens in most developed countries would easily recognize these names. According to
Interbrand's Best Global Brands annual report, these are the top 10 most valuable brands in the world in 2009.

IBM? interesting considering most people have no idea what they're doing these days, lol. I work with them and I don't really know what they do. "business solutions."
1I was thinking the same thing about IBM, Lissy !
2i was definitely surprised by IBM too...or at least by how high it's ranked!
3IBM is involved in some of the most incredible fields. One of their most recent projects is in water management for municipalities. They can monitor the demand of water across a region and direct pressure and supplies on the fly, apparently with significant potential savings. In the Netherlands they are implementing smart levees that monitor flood conditions and adjust for it. They have a project monitoring 315 miles of the Hudson River. They have systems that monitor massive bodies of water to predict the best time to harvest mussels.
They also have breakthroughs in water purification and desalination techniques. It has been argued, both by tree-huggers and major players on Wall Street, that in the future supplies of clean usable drinkable water will be more important than a barrel of oil. If that comes to fruition, IBM will be in a position best to capitalize on it.
4I guess I'm not really that surprised that Coca Cola is #1. Generic pop just doesn't match up; plus now that Coke has MyCokeRewards and is global, they're pretty much cleaning up in the financial market.
