The working world is full of career choices and occupational paths, and so many options means we all should be able to find something that fits our passions, personalities, and priorities, right? When it comes to finding something that makes you happy, time and money are of the essence, so it makes perfect sense that nearly 80 percent of you would appreciate the guidance of a career coach.

Career counselors would surely offer a better assessment of the types of jobs that would be most suitable for you than, say, a color test. Would you consider visiting one if you had the funds to do so?

Career Psychics and Coaches More Helpful Than Friends?

There are times when we know that change is the answer but have no idea what type of change is needed. Careers may turn sharp corners at any point during our working lives and any big decision should be thought through completely.

We look to friends, boyfriends, parents, siblings, mentors, and career psychics to help us sort through the pros and cons. Wait, back up! Career psychics? Find out more about the roles played by various career counselors when you read more.

The New York Times explains some subtle differences: "Career counselors tend to explore psychological undercurrents with clients, and they often have a master’s degree in counseling. Coaches typically come from the corporate world and focus on goal-setting." Those who focus on counseling may translate their psychic or intuitive skills to help their clients "see their dream job."

Career counseling and coaching in general can help uncertain workers achieve a finer focus on their true goals and gifts, and they charge up to $400 per hour for their services. They've indicated that more new graduates are seeking out their help because of their mounting concern for finding work in a weak economy along with student loans hanging over their heads.

When It Pays to Count Cash

Ask any career coach, interviewer, friend, or even stylist, and they'll tell you confidence is the number one thing that will give you an edge and make you stand out. Traditionally, confidence before an interview comes from thorough preparation, conviction that you have what it takes, and an outfit that makes you look the part, but a recent study suggests you might want to add a step to your pre-interview checklist.

According to a new study published in the journal Psychological Science, counting cash "can reduce emotional and physical pain as well as increase feelings of internal strength, fearlessness and confidence." One of the study's authors, Roy Baumeister of Florida State University, translated the study's conclusions into real life application and said, "It might be handy to sit down and count a stack of money before going out to the job interview."

I wonder if flipping through a wad of Monopoly cash would have the same effect. What do you think of Baumeister's recommendation?

Standing-Room Seating on Planes: Brilliant or Baffling?

If you think coach seats are uncomfortable, think how stiff your legs would feel after standing for an entire flight. China's Spring Airlines is considering selling standing-room seats to fulfill growing demand and spokesman Zhang Wuan explained, "It's just like bar stools. The safety belt is the the most important thing. It will still be fastened around the waist."

These so-called standing-room seats might not lead to pins and needles in your legs, but probably a bit of discomfort in the tush. However, implementing the idea would allow the airline to accommodate 40 percent more passengers per flight, reduce costs by 20 percent, and customers would enjoy lower airfares. What do you think of the concept for standing-room seating - is it brilliant or baffling?
