I’ve always been kind of intrigued by Stanford grad Ramit Sethi’s New York Times bestseller I Will Teach You to Be Rich. I dismissed the book at first because the gimmicky title brought to mind images of the question-mark guy on late-night infomercials, but the more I heard, the more interested I became. To hear why I changed my tune, read more

I've never seriously mulled over the pros and cons of spending my paycheck on a pair of great pumps or a handbag, but the idea of splurging on a vacation usually requires some deliberation. However, a recent study revealing the monetary worth of happiness may have me reevaluating my long-practiced spending habits.
The study suggests that, assuming all basic needs are met, we're better off spending our extra cash on a meaningful experience — a romantic getaway or well-deserved stay at the spa — versus the latest version of the iPod.

We tend to think about taking classes to further our careers, but some people are convinced that cooking classes are a great way to better their cooking skills at home. Those who aren't close to being Julie or Julia might consider investing in classes that teach important basics and instill a greater sense of confidence in the kitchen.

Casual Friday is reinstituted at Dunder-Mifflin on last night's episode of The Office, now that Michael is back in charge. Angela hates it because she thinks everyone looks inappropriate, and is especially bent out of shape about Oscar's sandals. Michael's interpretation of casual Friday is a hoodie, t-shirt, and jeans, Pam and Phyllis show up in the same khaki pants and purple plaid shirt, Meredith rocks a skimpy tube dress (with no underwear), and Kelly shows off her street style in overalls, metallic boots, and a hat.

On last night's The Celebrity Apprentice the male and female teams are challenged to host a live event to launch a new video phone. A heated exchange between Dennis Rodman, who has been on thin ice in weeks past for partying too hard, and Clint Black threatens the men's unity before the task even begins. On the women's team, a previous engagement sends Joan Rivers out of town, which in the words of project manager Claudia Jordan, leaves the gals "like the Patriots at the Super Bowl with no Tom Brady."

Washington Mutual's CEO Alan Fishman was hired on Sept. 7, less than three weeks before the bank failed and was purchased by JP Morgan Chase. JP Morgan hasn't decided the fate of the newbie CEO, but we can bet if he gets the boot he'll walk with much more than the $60,000 he was paid during those three weeks.

Out of the 12 tips Real Simple recommends for spending less, the most innovative is their tip for how to organize your shopping trips. They cleverly suggest that when you're shopping with the purpose of buying something that will inevitably be expensive (like a computer), you should select the smaller items first (like the software and other accessories).
The rationale is that after we buy something pricey, we're more likely to mindlessly buy more items that we don't need, because in comparison the amount seems insignificant.

In last night's episode of The Celebrity Apprentice, Donald Trump showed us he's still the same tough businessman he's always been — except am I the only one who thought he looked abnormally broad, like he was wearing extra shoulder pads? I think the old Apprentice got a surge of new life with its celebrity twist. Maybe it's because my expectations weren't too high for the first episode, but I was thoroughly entertained the entire hour.
