I finally dished out $10 (well, $24 if you count my popcorn, candy and soda!) to see This Is It, and while it was fascinating to see Michael Jackson's backstage persona on the job, I was particularly struck by the awe his backup dancers had for him. The documentary opens with an emotional scene of the crew sharing their audition tales — shot before MJ's death — and throughout the film we see the chosen few standing stage left grooving to Michael's sound checks. It's clear from their tears, stories, and smiles that the dancers worship his professional history.

Inspired by Australia's newsworthy contest for the Best Job in the World, The Tourism Authority of Thailand has launched a campaign it hopes will inspire renewed interest in traveling to the country that so heavily relies on tourism. Submit a one-minute video audition, and you could be one of five couples to win a fully paid trip to Thailand. One of the five winning couples will be eligible for the grand prize of $10,000, a BlackBerry, and a video camera.

The Government Accountability Office performed an audit on the "business expenses" of federal employees charged to government purchase cards (their version of credit cards) and, shocker, found that about half of the transactions were frivolous and unauthorized. The extent of abuse in spending outside set federal purchasing guidelines is evident in charges for things like lingerie, gambling, iPods, online dating services, and a Postal Service group partied with a $13,000 steak dinner washed down with 40 bottles of wine and fancy liquor.
While these charges, fueled by the taxpayers' dime, are a bit more alarming than non-government employees abusing the company card, I'm sure there are plenty of these patterns in private companies.

If you've been assessing where your career is headed and the thought of sending your resume to a nonprofit has crossed your mind, you first need to step back and consider if it's really the right move for you. And if you've gone through all of the important considerations of working for a nonprofit and are convinced there's potential for you to be happy in the nonprofit world, you should look at the kinds of jobs available in most organizations. The salaries are typically lower than those at for-profit companies, but you need to evaluate whether the work is worth a possible pay cut.

McDonald's released a casting call to its 1.6 million restaurant workers worldwide for its second biannual Voice of McDonald's contest. The first contest was in 2006 but this year there's a twist — people can vote online for their favorite contestants. They received 3,600 video auditions from singing workers across the globe and have narrowed the pool to 14 finalists that will compete at a McDonald's convention in April.
