A Look Back at the Beauty and Style of Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor passed away today at the age of 79. She became a success at the age of 12 when she starred in National Velvet, going on to star in films like Cleopatra, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?. Taylor's beauty and offscreen exploits helped build her into a Hollywood legend, the kind whose stories of romance and excess could fill a year's worth of Vanity Fair issues. In honor of her talent, beauty, and style on screen and off, we've put together a slideshow dedicated to Elizabeth Taylor.

Fab readers, what's your favorite Elizabeth Taylor moment? We want to hear!

Get the Look: J.Crew's "Gone Hollywood" Photo Shoot

If you haven't taken a look at the fun photos that comprise the new J.Crew "Gone Hollywood" lookbook, go take a peek.

If you haven't taken a look at the fun photos that comprise the new J.Crew "Gone Hollywood" lookbook, go take a peek. There's a really fun, California spirit to the shoot, and it doesn't hurt that the male model is actually Sam Page, who you may remember from episodes of Mad Men and Gossip Girl. One of my favorite pages from the photo shoot is the bedroom, and luckily, you can easily get the look. Start with a tufted, velvet headboard in a rich goldenrod hue — the Urban Outfitters Velvet Tufted Headboard ($350) in antique gold is a close match. Layer the bed with lots of high thread count white cotton linens, luxurious, high loft down pillows, and a few choice throw pillows, and voilà! You can almost pretend that you're in the middle of a "Gone Hollywood" adventure, though it's up to you to provide the wardrobe and the script pages to toss. To shop the rest of the look, just click on each image.

Confusing Growing Up With Aging in Hollywood

In January's issue of Glamour, Reese Witherspoon becomes the latest celebrity to declare she's getting sexier with age.

In January's issue of Glamour, Reese Witherspoon becomes the latest celebrity to declare she's getting sexier with age.

"Sexuality and femininity is an accumulation of age and wisdom and comfort in your own skin. I feel better — so much better now than I ever did in my twenties. I am calmer; I know who I am. And as a result, I feel much sexier."

Of course, she's only 34. Ask her again in 10 years, and her answer might sound more jaded. At 43, Julia Roberts wishes she appreciated her youthful beauty more, and 42-year-old Laura Linney calls aging a privilege because the only alternative is to die young.

While Reese has the stature to act into old age, leading roles for women go down as age goes up — you need to be Meryl Streep to lead a rom-com after 60 — so Hollywood is far from a friend to aging.

But as celebrities like Kristen Bell, Jessica Simpson, and Kim Kardashian turn 30, they're asked to reflect on their age. All report feeling confident, sexy, and so comfortable in their skin, but isn't that normal? Because the difference between 20 and 30, or 24 and 34, isn't growing old, it's growing up.

"When I started out, someone suggested that we finish a meeting in the bedroom. I left. I was pretty shocked. I could see how someone who didn't know better might worry, 'My career will be ruined if I don't give this guy a blow job!'"

— In Elle's women in Hollywood issue, Gwyneth Paltrow describes what women are sometimes expected to do to get ahead in the movie industry. She managed to skip the casting couch.

What Is Your Dream Job?

Travie McCoy may want to be a billionaire, but it seems most people just want to be actors.

Travie McCoy may want to be a billionaire, but it seems most people just want to be actors. Almost a third of the people polled by Marist want to make a name for themselves in Hollywood as actors or actresses, says New York Daily News. Being a professional athlete is the next dream job on the list.

Surprisingly, about 13 percent of the participants want to be the president of the United States. Judging by the state of the economy, I imagine it must be one of the most stressful jobs around! What about you — what is your ultimate dream job?

Home Away From Home: The Redbury — A Sneak Peek!

The Redbury in Hollywood, the newest boutique hotel from luxury LA developer SBE (SLS, Katsuya), is set to soft launch on Aug.

The Redbury in Hollywood, the newest boutique hotel from luxury LA developer SBE (SLS, Katsuya), is set to soft launch on Aug. 17, and will open in full on Sept. 1. Only a select few photos have debuted, and I'm already dying to stay there! The 57-room hotel features traditional English antiques (roll arm sofas with nailhead trim) and rustic elements, alongside exotic textiles like suzanis, ikats, and Persian rugs. Not your typical stark modern Hollywood home away from home, the rooms are well-accessorized, well-lit, and warm, with an extensive Old Word art collection of hand-drawn illustrations and oil paintings. Overall it has quite an artsy, bohemian vibe, and feels much more like staying in a friend's guest room than in the thick of Los Angeles.

The difference, though, is that when you wake up in your canopy bed on your 300-thread-count Italian linen sheets, dozens of LA diversions await. In fact, the Redbury is steps off of Hollywood Boulevard. The hotel's room service comes from SBE's nearby Katsuya, and a stay in the hotel gets you VIP access to all of SBE's other nightclubs and restaurants. And its signature new restaurant Cleo will no doubt be a hotspot, too. Room rates range from $300-$700. Take the tour below!

Elle Decor and La Cienega Design Quarter of LA have teamed up to host a special two-day event in LA honoring design on the silver screen and television, Legends of La Cienega: Celebrate Hollywood. From Melrose Avenue to Santa Monica Boulevard, celebrated interior designers and set decorators all along La Cienega Boulevard have created captivating window vignettes inspired by movies and TV series throughout Hollywood's history. From The Hangover (shown) and Entourage back to Dr. Zhivago and Alice in Wonderland, the creative talents have re-created beloved films for passersby to experience from the sidewalk. The vignettes are open today, and events will run tomorrow and Saturday, including an exciting lineup of festivities including book signings, special exhibitions, and special keynote discussions with A-list panelists — get all the info here. Proceeds benefit Habitat For Humanity Greater Los Angeles. Elle Decor was nice enough to share photos with me of the window display, so I've selected a few of my favorites.
