The chill in the air can only mean that the holidays are just around the corner, which usually means an invitation for the annual office party would appear in your inbox any day now. Word on the street is that after a rough year that included the termination of CosmoGIRL!, Hearst Corp. has canceled its holiday party, and perhaps its decision is an indication of what other corporations will do about celebrating this year.
I imagine the party scene this holiday season will look much different than what most workers are used to — if not canceled altogether, most company parties will probably be more prudent than in the past.
Crocs
We're having one and they're talking about having either karaoke or an Elvis impersonator there. I'm jumping for joy just thinking about it
1No one has said anything about it, but I'd be surprised if we cancelled it. Ours is LAME though so that would be fine. Spectra's sounds way more awesome with the Elvis impers.
2My company's party has always been low-key and will also be so this year. My husband's company used to go all out with a huge, lavish bash but this year they've opted for several smaller team-oriented parties. It still looks nice but I enjoyed the crazy scene of years past.
3We don't have a holiday party, we usually have a big yearly party in January. It's usually at a fancy place like the Bacara or the Biltmore and it's a dinner and dancing. It's usually pretty fun. Our deprtment usually has a potluck or all goes out to lunch and we do a secret santa or something. I love things like that!
4No holiday party for me. But I'm glad I get a nice big holiday bonus.
5Our "holiday party" usually consists of the entire office going to a rundown bar where our boss gets trashed and buys all of our shots. Yes, I imagine this will be happening the same way this year.
6No and that sucks.
7i work for a small company so my boss usually sends an email a week before and invites us all to dinner. More importantly i want to know if i am getting a raise and
a bonus this year!
8Yes, all three of us! Yippee!
9Wow I haven't seen Pochacco (sp?) forEVER, Fiend! So cute!
10i just started my job, so all of this is heresay - but apparently our christmas party used to be AWESOME... all the employees and families dressed up at a swanky locale on a saturday night, free food/drinks, etc....
we just got a vmail from the office managing partner saying that its been cancelled and instead is being replaced with an employees only party on a wednesday night from 6-9! it should still be nice but i was really looking forward to an awesome christmas party.
11We get a holiday party, but it's just a big lunch in the structures lab. And anyway, they pay for it with money they collect from us by selling chips and snacks in the break room, so there's really no way they could cancel it. We payed for it!
12Ours is huge... it's something of a legend among the consulting firms soooooooooo it's almost a matter of pride.
13Yup! We're definitely having one. I don't know how we're going to top last year's party though!
14We all thought ours would be cancelled but it's on ... complete with gifts for employees' kids. I've had a good time at previous parties but I'd rather be sure that no one's going to get laid off!
15yup..and i get to plan it
16yup..and i get to plan it
17Ours is very scaled back... used to be dinner, drinks and a DJ at a local hotel for all associates and a guest, but this year it sounds like it's just gonna be a happy hour. Tough times.
18I have no idea. It will depend on the next contract getting signed.
19Unfortunately, my company is having a holiday party. I hate those things.
20i don't know if we are or aren't but i'm going to assume that we are ...it's still kind of early for us to talk about it. business has been 'ok' so far - so i'm going to hope so.
21My company is having a holiday party but a very scaled back one, apparently the high ups will be BBQing burgers for us.
22They're having several and I don't want to go to any of them.
