Are You Hoping to Take Advantage of the Homebuyer's Credit?

First-time buyers hoping to take advantage of the homebuyer's credit are feeling the pressure to find a place soon. Eligibility for the tax credit states that the deal must be done before Dec. 1, and that deadline is creeping up quickly. Are you hoping to get the $8,000 credit?

We bought our house last year, so we got the $7,500 credit. But we have to pay it back which isn't fair. We needed to replace our windows so we basically used it as an interest free loan, so it works out ok.

I would love to take advantage of it but as of right now I'm a renter and coming up with $$ for a down payment is next to impossible :(

I wish, but we're stuck in our lease until next June. We'd still make out a little ahead, but we're also planning a January wedding right now and I think it would just be too much stress to move and get married at the same time. As much as I want my own washing machine, I don't feel quite ready for all of that yet.

Nope, we bought our house in '07 so we don't qualify. My brother in law just bought a house, though...he's definitely excited about getting his $8,000.

I think "hoping" is exactly the right term. Ideally, hubs and I will find a place and close the deal in time. But we're not going to settle on a home that's not right for us in order to get the credit. So keeping fingers crossed while the search continues. Julie, congrats on getting your home all settled and in reaping the credit benefit!

Hubby and I bought a house in March. Received our tax credit about a month ago. Sweet!
