Not all travel sites are guaranteed to deliver happy, helpful, money-saving experiences. Many of you are all about Kayak.com and your judgment is good — the editors of Budget Travel call the website "The all-time best site for finding the cheapest plane tickets in the US." If that's not love, I don't know what is.

You and I don't have time to sort through every travel site available, and who better to do the dirty work than the professionals at Budget Travel? They've singled out five websites that are consistently useful, and each of the sites provides something a little different from the next. To see the sites they say are the best on the Internet, read more.

  • Dohop.com: The site should be used "strictly for booking plane trips entirely outside of the US, such as a flight between Paris and Rome." Don't rely on the site for booking outbound flights from the US.
  • Kayak.com: BT is full of praise for the aggregate travel site. What they appreciate most: "Once you've found a good flight on Kayak, click on the price and you'll be sent directly to the airline's website, where the exact price for the exact flight you selected unfailingly appears."
  • Priceline.com: The editors say they understand some the name-your-own-price option isn't for everyone, but they're big fans of the deep discounts to be had and say, "You'll find the best results when bidding for upscale hotels in large cities, paying up to half off what other guests pay."
  • TripAdvisor.com: BT summarizes, "Harnessing the power of the masses, the user-hotel-review site TripAdvisor is the top way to hunt for hotels."
  • Venere.com: According to BT, the site "spotlights independently owned properties overseas, many of which never show up on American travel sites."
