Would You Take the Option to Work From Home Every Day?

More employers are allowing employees to work from home on Fridays as a way to save on gas, a definite work perk if you ask me. Working from home can be better for some people because they claim to be more efficient without office distractions, but others claim the opposite — some workers need the office setting to be as productive as possible. Would you take the option to work from home every day if your boss were to offer it?

I would love it--not dressing up, not commuting, not dealing with a bunch of irritating people. I can imagine working at home or taking my laptop to a coffee shop, a library, a park, or any other comfortable place--I think I would actually do better in surroundings I have control over.

I would love to work from home, but it's good for me to get out of the house every day. I actually turned down the opportunity to telecommute for that reason.

Honestly, I would prefer to work from home, however, I'd like to also balance it with some time spent in the office when needed or to help out a fellow coworker if need be.

If I worked at home, I would probably be distracted, but then again, I'm a pretty focused person. I would definitely miss the gossip from my colleagues though.

I work from home and I love it. I go in for different types of meetings. I hate the long ones but I can't complain because it's not like I've been in the office all day long. I like the traveling part of it too. But again, I like the home setting. Once you set a schedule for yourself at home then it's not hard at all to stay more focused on work than play. You have to have self control when working from home. You can't watch television most of the day, talk on the phone to friends, shop, lay around in your PJ's for half the day, and then complain about how much you didn't get done by the end of the work day.

I work from home and have since about 1998. I prefer it though it has its downside. Since I don't have kids there are no real distractions - you will get stir crazy sometimes and find a real need to get "out" on your off days, believe me! Also, you do need to be disciplined, focused and create routines for yourself so that you keep it professional....having a workspace designated that is cute, comfy and separate from your "chillout" zones helps too. I think its a great option, as long as people see the ups and downs of both sides.

I would take that option if I was working and I had children, but I did not want to give up my job because I wanted to stay home to take care of my children. However, because I wanted to keep my job I would work at home and save money on daycare and do it myself.

I have the option of coming into the office or WFH, and I rarely WFH. I thought when I took the job it would be this fantastic luxury but I find myself riddled with guilt if I'm at home-- even if I'm working my backside off. I still feel like it's frowned upon, even if it's not.

i work from home as a freelance writer. i don't get a damn thing done until the kids go to sleep. i am actually itching to get back into an office just to have some adults to talk to. i love my kids and i know they will give me incentive to do work and not gab and fool around all day, but i miss dressing up and going out to work. maybe one day a week i would take, but doing it for the past 4 years has worn a little thin.

I can't work from home but I wish I could. I work with some people that are friendly to your face and then stab you when you turn around. I've only been at this job 11 months and let me tell you, as soon as I can, I am OUTTA there! I know every workplace has issues but this place takes the cake!

I would love to work from home everyday, I'd even settle for a day or two a week. That would save me so much time, money and aggravation. I commute about 17 miles and try to travel off peak rush hour but it still generally takes me a bout 45 minutes to get to and from work. I could accomplish a great deal of my work from home, since I'm in IT and can just remote in.

I would love it! Saving on gas money and avoiding the commute. Also saves on meals. My mom started working from home a few months ago and she would never trade it. She doesn't have to worry about laundry all the time or deal w/ people's bs at work. Takes away a lot of stress. And considering her commute was about 1 1/2 hours, it really does save on gas and stress.

I wouldn't mind working from home 3 days a week. I think that's a good balance for me.

It would be so nice to save some money on the commute but I think I would get even less done at home. I'm more easily distracted at home where there isn't pressure to get anything done and it would be way too easy just to take a nap, sleep in late, or do anything other than what needs to get done.

I would jump at the chance if it was offered to me. I would save a mint not driving 80 miles every day! I've talked about this with several of my co-workers. I would get so much more done if I was working at home in a quiet environment instead of being in the office where someone is ALWAYS interrupting my work. Then again I'm in the IT field (web development) so working off-site doesn't change that much for me other than being unavailable for coworkers/clients in our building to 'stop over' all the time.
