Would You Pay For a Pillow and Blanket on the Plane?

JetBlue's money troubles have triggered its newest plan to begin charging for a pillow and blanket kit, only offered on flights longer than two hours.

The $7 "eco-friendly" travel blanket and pillow will come with a $5 coupon to Bed Bath & Beyond. According to JetBlue, the blankets' fabric technology blocks critters, mold spores, pollen, and pet dander.

bigestive could not agree with you more. The airlines are begining to get more and more ridiculous and shows how their planners lack initiative to come up with an effective cost saving scheme that will close the profit gap. Sooner or later we are going to be responsible for cleaning the toilets, getting the baggage out of the hold. Oh! another one charge us to listen to the safety announcements! So since we are charged for everything, what exactly are we paying for besides the outrageous bonuses of their top execs! I would like a break down of the cost of my air ticket how about that!

Would i get to keep it or am i just renting it? If it were the former, i still wouldn't go for it. I have my own blankets and pillows, not to mention shawls.

no, thats what my hubby shoulder is for and my jacket for the blanket. :) its a shame what they are charging for simple items. i won't fly if i don't have to.

I don't sleep on planes... period. Even on the 14 hour flight to Osaka... awake the whole time.

What other crazy fee's will airlines come up with? Increasing ticket prices by 200% (in some cases) since last year isn't enough?

This expecially sucks coming from Jet Blue, because they pump the ac on all the planes - if they continue, people will end up feeling like they HAVE to buy blankets. so lame

Ewww. No they are nasty, germ fests. If they were wrapped in plastic and I was 100% satisfied that they were clean, then yes. But I would not put it past these cheap-as*s airlines to just put unwashed pillows and blankets in plastic wrap and redistribute then. Planes are so disgusting I would not even bring my own pillow or blanket on board. Ugh. Gross. I wish I could wrap *myself* in purell and plastic on a plane!

I actually do not mind the idea of a kit that I pay for I would just want a guarantee that is clean and mine to keep. I am more upset they are charging for checked luggage. I travel with my dog Cuba and I am not allowed to bring my rollie on board so I have no choice.

My own jacket and pillow will be just fine. $7 for something that I'm not sure is even clean? No way.

No, I would just bring a shaw or light jacket. $7.00 --are they clean and I hope both are sealed in plastic.

Not even! Besides, my germophobe mind always thinks the pillows/blankets aren't sanitary. That's why I bring a coat with me on the plane. If I get cold, I put that on.

I'm cold natured enough that I would do this. I always freeze on planes, esp when going somewhere tropical b/c I don't want to be all bundled up when I arrive and it's 100 degrees, so I wear jeans and a tank or a sundress. I always ask for a blanket as soon as I get on the plane!

I can totally see the boardroom brainstorming sessions these airlines are having ... "Hmm, let's see - what ELSE can we make the customers pay for? How about using the toilet??"

i heard about this on the news lastn ight and again this AM and to be honest NO I WOULD NOT PAY $7 for a blanket and pillow on a plane. they are so not worth it. i think that i would rather be a bit chilly on the flight than pay that much money for something that should be given as 'free' since i'm paying out my butt for a ticket. this is really starting to get out of control.

Absolutely not!!! I could travel with my own mini pillow or neck pillow and my pashmina.
