Would You Consider Moving Abroad For Work?

When it seems like every possible solution leads to a dead end, the seemingly sensible conclusion could be to just start over. Many American professionals are trying their luck outside the country, having been ousted by their jobs and left with pessimistic feelings about the future of the US job market.

Would you consider expatriating for career opportunities?

yes, definitely. my husband and i have seriously thinking of moving abroad since we graduated college last year. we'll see!

At this point, I really have nothing to lose by moving and working abroad. I think it would be a great opportunity for me.

I would love to work abroad, especially before I settle down with a family. As I am still in my 20s this seems like as good a time as any. If only there were some good ways to research jobs overseas. Anyone know of any?

My friend who is teaching in South Korea is trying to convince my boyfriend and me to join her next spring when I graduate with my masters. It's tempting, but I'm not sure I want to or that it's wise to basically throw away 2 years of working toward a career in historic preservation. I guess we'll see when the time comes next spring!

My and my fiance have already talk about many times looking abroad to live and work. Now we are trying to decide where we would like to move and live.

I'm working abroad in my dream job in London ... and I'm very grateful for the opportunity. I doubt I could do the same in the States.

My fiance is 100% behind my dream of working with Doctors Without Borders, even if he can't join me. I hope he can, though! It's quite a few years away, though.

I´ve now moved countries twice (my husband got transferred for our last country and I followed) and it´s been fantastic overall. The only thing is that sometimes employers are reluctant to hire someone who´ll only be there for a year or less, for a ¨proper¨ job. If you´re looking to move abroad for work, I say go for it. Not only do you have something interesting on your CV, but you´ll grow and mature in so many other ways as well. Sounds cliched, but it´s true. Sure there will be hard times, and everything you could never have imagined will go wrong, but it´s worth it. And yes, I don´t know if I could have done it without my husband. :)

I've worked abroad before & loved it. That was right after college though & there's a lot more to consider now. If the right opportunity came up, I'd love to do it again.

I interned in Southeast Asia three summers ago for six weeks and though I spoke the primary language and felt mostly comfortable because I'd been there before (my parents immigrated from there), I still experienced quite a bit of culture shock. I don't know if I could handle living abroad for longer than six months or a year, especially if I couldn't bring my b/f with me.
