Unless you're someone that works from home, I'm not sure how an employee could muster up the audacity to watch porn at work. But someone did, and that someone is nine D.C. government employees who were fired when their inappropriate work habits were uncovered. Tipped off by another employee, the government agency found that the employees looked at porn an average of about 200 times per work day last year.

An internal investigation came up with some mind boggling results: each of the nine employees dabbled in virtual nudity more than 19,000 times last year; three perused these sites over 39,000 times apiece last year, and 32 other employees visited sites over 2,000 times but will retain their jobs.
I'm wondering how they had so much time on their hands without anyone noticing. Maybe the city supervisors should launch a productivity investigation among their employees next.

Disgraceful, I am not against Porn at all. But there is a time and a place. The workplace undoubtedly is not one of them.
1Ah, DC government at its best. I work in the city (but in the private sector) and it looks like all the rumors/myths about gov't employees are coming true
2nine of them? were they...watching it together?
3I worked in the IT field and can't believe that the sites weren't blocked. Every single place I have worked blocked most internet access and kept logs of every website that was being hit.
4a group of 4 or 5 firefighters in the city where i live were just fired for watching porn at work! and i agree with country betty, there's nothing wrong with porn, but why oh why do these people feel the need to watch it at work?!
5I'm shocked they got through too. My fiance works for the feds, and he has all kinds of sites blocked. He can't even go to MSN or ESPN.
6sucks they got caught.
and that the sites weren't blocked.
i know you can get around some webfilters by looking at the cached version of a site in google....
7At work?? Wow, what idiots!
8I would NEVER look at porn at work! That is just PLAIN STUPID!
9I watch it at home but that's about it all
I'm not surprised that they were looking at porn at work; I'm surprised that they were looking at it so often! How the heck did they find the time?
10hummm
11sounds like they should've waited till they got home
find the time? these are govt employees.
12It would be interesting to know how they were able to get past the web filter and all that, being government employees. My husband works as an IT Tech and they have logs that are miles long of faculty and staff trying to look at sites they shouldn't be at work.
13200 times a work day?!?!?! Holy crap! That takes dedication. Too bad they didn't work as hard as they liked to view porn.
14200 Times A Day??? That really takes a lot out of your work day. How were they getting anything done? That sounds like a full Saturday for an porn addict, not a average day at work.
15LOL @ comment 14
16Seriously! 200 times per work day is a lot! The time wasting seems more troubling to me than the porn.
17Oh!
How very skeevy...
18I hope they just didn't mess any equipment up or had any accidents.
19what were they thinking?
20wow...200 times, per day...but you know what, I am constantly on this website...uh oh...GULP!!!
21I know, right!
22I really hope Mayor Fenty can clean house, there is a lot of dead wood in DC govt. What's even more baffling than the sites not being blocked is that people who were looking at porn ::who will keep their jobs!:: Nevermind the multitude of city employees who, over several years, conspired to embezzle millions of taxpayer dollars. ugh.
23I agree meumitsuki, why haven't the sites been blocked? and the gov none the less, they should get the IT dept. on that...
24It's the DC government, they are so dysfunctional! Only 9 were fired but many more were doing it. They couldn't fire everyone so they only fired the most egregious. Also, this is nothing compared to a few months ago when DC officials caught a lady in the TAX department stealing. She stole 16-20 million!!! this was over a few years but still! She had a Bently and everything. I would think it was somewhat curious that a lower level civil servant was rolling into work in a Bently and furs! Oh and a bunch of buildings burnt down last year because the city didn't bother to fix the hydrants. DC is CRAZY!!!!
25haha. although i do give these nine individuals 'credit' i would never have enough guts or even think of watching porn at work.
