I'm Asking: What Irked You About This Year's Tax Season?

It's April 15, which means tax day is almost in our wake. We've worked hard to meet our deadline — or we're still scrambling — so we deserve to let off some steam. Let's get some complaining out of our taxed systems. Did anything happen during this tax time that made your jaw clench with annoyance? Let out your frustration. I feel your pain.

I'm a full-time student (so no job) and had to pay taxes on the academic awards I won

Here's what pissed me off: We did a lot of the stuff that you can get a credit for (installing a woodstove, buying a house, etc.) JUST ahead of when they initiated the credits for it. So we missed out on all kinds of money just because of poor timing.

i the fact that i'm self-employed - making things happen for me - and barely staying afloat .... and i didn't have enough business expenses to deduct for the govt - which means - i owe lots of money... but at the same time - if i'm trying to make my business stay afloat - clearly i can't be overspending.. argh! wow! it did feel good to vent... :-)

Due to self employment, I owed this year which is annoying. I hate writing checks in addition to what I already paid. I WISH I got something back :( Guess shopping will have to wait...

Ugh. I work a part-time retail job in addition to my "regular" full-time job and they are giving me such issues with getting my W-2. We are supposed to be able to just print it from this website, but you need your exact hire date, which I have requested 12 times in person (the managers would always claim only one manager knew how to look it up, and when I asked her, she would say she would get it for me before I left, but she never did), 4 times over the phone, and twice in e-mails. I finally got it a few weeks ago, only to try to log in to the website and discover that it was wrong! So, I tried a few dates around that day, thinking the number in my paper file may have gotten off by a day or two from the one in my electronic file. And, after three failed attempts, the system logged me out, so now I can't even try to log in. I have since contacted them twice by phone and once by e-mail, only to be told, time and again, that they would look in to it and get back to me. So, needless to say, I am frustrated. I had to file extensions for both the IRS and my state taxes today. Additionally, I recently found out that when I moved from VA to DC in September, my address was never changed (at my part time job) for tax purposes, so figuring that all out is going to be another huge headache. Grrr!

I'm not upset at the amount of taxes we pay relative to our income, but that doesn't make writing the checks fun!

For us, it took more documentation than usual, and the IRS was vague about what they really wanted. Thankfully, our tax return was accepted, and we received a refund.

I guess I'm one of the few weirdos in this country that don't mind paying taxes. I did get a refund this year and when my tax preparer was going over it with me I found so many stupid little "tax breaks" that were either left over from the Bush years or a new "stimulus" items that were ridiculous. I think paying taxes is what we do in order to live in a free society. And I don't agree w/ this never ending promise from all politicians to cut taxes. I expect services from my taxes and I don't want those services cut. I like driving on paved roads, drinking clean water, having parks for my kids to play in, and so on.
