Chances are some of you received gift cards this past holiday season. And odds are some of them are still sitting in that pile you keep meaning to go through, running the risk of going to complete waste. Gift card delinquency is extremely common — a business research firm estimated that out of the $97 billion in gift cards purchased in 2007, $7.8 billion wouldn't be redeemed.
Some gift cards expire or lose value after some time, so before you forget all about those pint sized gifts go out and use them! Even if the corresponding store is a place you tend to avoid, at least go in and buy some socks. And if you really don't want the gift card, you may want to consider selling it online.

Anyone want any applebee's or Chili's? How about to an AMC theater, the only one here in pittsburgh just so happened to have multiple shootings! Ugh just give cash people, honestly.
1I use mine all the time!
2How can you not!?
My man hooked me up with a bunch of gas cars (I drive a Caddy and she's a b*tch on gas) and I used them all up ASAP!
Cash - the ultimate gift. You can turn it into anything. It's like magic!
3Thanks for the reminder! I have $50 toward something at Ann Taylor Loft! I better get on that!
4Hello!!! I'll happily take anybody's gift cards they don't want!!
5I can always find something to buy with a giftcard, regardless of the store
6Usually when I use a gift card, the store will give me the cash remaining that I didn't spend. If they don't, you might be surprised how long they'll keep your balance! I was looking in a drawer the other day and found a Borders gift card that I partially used about 5 years ago. The receipt with the balance was a couple of dollars, and I called the number at the back of the card-- the balance was still there!
I'm going to use it towards buying a book for
college if I don't get a book voucher this semester!
7I think I lost my gift certificate to get my nails done - it was an actual paper one not a card - I have to look for that this weekend, thanks for the reminder
8Ugh this totally reminds me of my younger brother. A couple years ago, I felt bad about not being able to be home to help him pick out his cool "back to school" clothes (as he was intent on making an impression as a college freshman) so I bought him a $50 gift card to Urban Outfitters for his birthday. Yeah, he lost it. And didn't even seem to care. The natural reaction would be to give him money next time, but no, I'm just choosing some cheap presents and he can deal with it! Plus, he forgot my birthday this year so GRRR!!!
9awww bigestivediscuit, that sounds really sad. You're a nice sister though! lol about you "forgetting" his birthday after he forgot yours! Someday, he'll appreciate having you as a big sister
10Illinois has legislation aimed at preventing consumers from getting ripped off. Started Jan 1 of this year, the expiration date on gift cards must be five years and no fees can be charged that will diminish gift card value. So great, imo.
11Oooh thanks for reminding me about the gift cards I got for Christmas & my birthday! I have one of the mall credit card/gift card things. I love those. Yay shopping!
12Anyone who doesn't want theirs, email me! Haha
13lol
14my husband and i always spend ours!
