Trick Question: Where Is the Nearest Starbucks?

It didn't come as much of a surprise when Starbucks announced they'd be closing 600 stores and eliminating 12,000 positions, and when The New York Times took another look into the company's troubles it exposed that real estate was Starbucks's biggest fumble. The two-page article can be summed up with just one observation: "Starbucks misjudged the risks of putting stores close to each other."

You can say that again — Google Maps turned up 99 locations within just one mile of Sugar HQ! How many Starbucks are within one mile of your home or office?

I couldnt figure the google maps out so I used switchboard.com and there is only 1 within a mile of me, yay for historic neighborhoods! :WOOHOO:

yea, i live downtown seattle and for within 1 mile it says there are 998. within 2500 ft is 57.

Meike, you are right! You can't turn around in Seattle without seeing a starbucks! It's nuts!

I have a Starbucks literally in my backyard. I could crawl there if need be. Luckily I only hit it up about 2-3 times a month, but I get coffee from Starbucks or Dunn Bros (closer to my office) about once a week.

I wish the image of this map went just a few blocks north. If you stand on the corner of Sansome and Clay in San Francisco, the panaromic view includes 3 Starbucks, all within eyesight of eachother.

Lol, Seattle being the birthplace of Starbucks has even more locations than San Fran. When I lived in Washington and visited the city, my husband and I literally would always be in view of a nearby Starbucks.

There are 1,375 starbuck's within 1 mile from my office (in midtown NYC). Ha, there are two starbucks in my building alone. Its ridiculous.

My building in downtown LA takes up one square block. There is a Starbucks in the building and one on every corner of the block. So...5 within a 2 minute walking distance. Plus a Coffee Bean down the road, and a few mom and pop coffee shops. Ridiculous!

It seems like it was inevitable that putting stores on every other corner would backfire. I live in a moderately sized city, and there's about 20 Starbucks locations around town. Here at least, they did a pretty good job spreading them out and making them accessible wherever you may be. I try not to drink much coffee though, so I have to resist whenever I drive past one. :) I've heard that in some other smallish towns, there's not many other options besides Starbucks. Here there are Moxie Javas (my favorite), Dutch Bros and tons of other even smaller chains. No Dunkin Donuts, though.

"I do kinda sifted through the results for the 2500 ft and 1 mile results..." WTF? Can I NOT type a coherent sentence?? Perhaps I am not caffeinated enough yet this morning....oh, well, I seem to have a plethora of Starbucks nearby to choose from!! LOL! ;-)

Nope, tidal...if i do the total search results it is...5,035!! Using the refine by distance selection it is: 2500 ft: 58 1 mile: 1316 5 miles: 2319 15 miles: 4281 45 miles: 5035 I do kinda sifted through the results for the 2500 ft and 1 mile results to check the starbucks just being mentioned in the name...and found only the starbucks headquarters being the only one where it wasn't an actual starbucks coffee shop! We are seemingly quite caffeinated here in Seattle!!!

@martinilush: i think you got the 1,312 number from the "total search results" - that is different from actual locations. Also, google will include other buildings that simply mention Starbucks on their site, like: "Palace Theatre is located a block from starbucks." Unfortunately, google will include this in the results - so that is how the business results get bloated.
