NYC Unemployment Olympics Are All Fun, Games, and Prizes

With challenges like the Fax Machine Toss, You're Fired Race, and Pin the Blame on the Bosses, the first-ever Unemployment Olympics yesterday drew a crowd of unemployed New Yorkers in the East Village. Proof of unemployment was necessary to become a participant, and competitors played games with the possibility of winning prizes from local businesses, like a $50 bar tab and restaurant gift certificates.

The event was organized by 26-year-old Nick Goddard, a recently laid-off computer programmer who hoped the mock Olympics would "lift everyone's spirits a little," and commented, "Originally, my thought was just to make people laugh."
