Your Two Cents: Are You an Office Gossip?

I don't know of an office that exists without gossip, and I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. As long as the information isn't harmful to the company or intended to hurt someone else, gossip is generally just a way to cope with an information void that's a given when you're lower on the totem pole. So, do you have your fingers on the pulse of your workplace?

shame to admit it but i sometimes gossip.. but its usually only to my friend and vice versa.. i wouldnt ever spill confidential things though

I am SO guilty of office gossip. I don't spread it to everyone in the company though, only to my ONE trusted beloved coworker (outside of work premises)! I've seen some two faced women in the workplace... I'm extra cautious not to get caught in a sticky situation.

i can honestly say that i'm not an office gossip. i've been at the bad end of gossip and it's hurtful so i would never listen/spread it

Nah, its pointless and usually lies at MUNI.Now when I worked in an office the gossip was hilarious and usually started by our 84 year old receptionist ad centered on wardrobe and manners she considered inappropriate. Like female visitors coming in and crossing their legs instead of just crossing their ankles - Frances would have a field day - "That woman is a HARLOT! A HARLOT!" And the whole company would hear about how the Walmart rep was a harlot because she dared crossed her legs! Oh the horror!

Now when I worked in an office the gossip was hilarious and usually started by our 84 year old receptionist ad centered on wardrobe and manners she considered inappropriate. Sometimes. I try my best to stay away from it. Bad Karma. I think any kind of gossip is bad.

there are 7 women in my building and 3 men...OF COURSE we gossip. But it's on a totally different level...we're all like family and know each other front and back.

I work in an office that is only staffed with women in their 30's, 40's, 50's. I swear, this is the worst job environment I've ever been in. I've been the victim many times of office gossip. A lot of times the gossip turns into outright harrassment. The problem in my case is that the boss does it too, so it's insitutionalized and there's nowhere you can go to stop it. The only thing you can really do is quit, but what if you can't afford to quit?

office gossip is not fun, and can get out of hand really quickly. i've been the "victim" in gossip before and it doesn't make work enjoyable at all! Everyone needs to vent...but some people take it a bit too far.

One of my first jobs was mainly populated by 20 somethings. People would hook up here and there and the environment quickly started feeling like middle school all over again. I was sooooo happy get out of that. I certainly partook then, but after that experience I do my best to stay out of it!

*GAH*! Office gossip makes me crazy - nothing is worse than working somewhere that has the feel of a high school cafeteria. I used to work in a department that consisted of a lot of women in entry level positions trying to get ahead of the pack and move up the career ladder. It was a LOT of cattiness and gossip and crap...nothing was better than the day I left that behind and moved to a new position (while all the gossipers were left behind and still haven't gotten a promotion, or have left the company all together!).

I never EVER office gossip! It's a bad habit haha! And will get you into trouble!I just mainly keep to myself! I do go out for drinks with them and all but I never gossip about anything!
