Have you ever purchased something full price and returned to the store a day later to find the very same item on sale? Before you try something complicated like returning it and buying it again, ask if the company honors price adjustments. Most major retails offer refunds to the current price if you bring your receipt back to the store within 14 days. Each store has its own policy and loopholes, but here's what you can expect from some of the big names in price adjustments and price matching.
- Abercrombie — Permits price adjustments within 14 days of your order placement date.
- Anthropologie — Allows adjustments within 14 days of your order placement date.
- Banana Republic — Accepts price adjustments within 14 days of the date on your purchase.
- Best Buy — Will do a price match within 14 days of your purchase date.
- Gap — Offers price adjustments within 14 days of your purchase date.
For five additional retailers, read more.
- J.Crew — You can get a price adjustment on full price merchandise within seven days of the retail purchase or mail order ship date.
- Kohl's — You can get a price adjustment if you bought the item on sale or at regular price within 14 days of the purchase date.
- Nordstrom — Offers price adjustments if the item you purchased is reduced from its regular price within 14 days from your order date. They also have a "never pay more policy," where they will match a price you find elsewhere.
- Old Navy — Honors price adjustments within 14 days of your purchase.
- Wal-Mart — Price adjustments will be given on prior Wal-Mart purchases within seven days of purchase.
Have you had great success doing price adjustments at a particular chain or store? If so, share the company and your experience in the comments!

most stores have these. just ask if you're wondering. every retail store i've ever worked in had at least a 7-day period.
1HHGregg has one of the *best* versions of this. They have a 30-day best price guarantee- you get the lower price on an item that is sold either by them OR by their competitors within 30 days of your purchase, plus 10% of the difference. They honor this in-store even if the sale price is current at their competitor.
That means if you know Walmart has the TV you want on super-sale, but you hate buying from Walmart, you can walk into the HHGregg and show them the Walmart ad and they will sell it to you for that price. And that is how I got my 42' flat screen.
2Thanks for the tip, chocolat!
And I was going to say the same thing as snarky, pretty much every store offers some sort of price adjustments. I can't think of a store that doesn't.
3I bet most stores would if you ask. I never think about clothing stores, but I think of it for places like Target.
4i've never been lucky enough to be successful in the whole price adjustment /matching thing but i think that it's only good business to do that. we all realize that you can get similar products everywhere and that retailers mark things up - so it's only right to have prices adjusted if that's the case.
5I've done price adjustments at GAP, Anthropologie, and Hollister several times, and they never gave me trouble.
I think most stores have a policy like this, except for the disposable fashion store Forever21.
6Costco does price adjustments and I think they do it for much longer than 14 days.
7I bought a watch at nordstroms and they price matched costco. It made me a very happy camper.
8I love price adjustments and price matches too. I am not shy about asking since I work hard for my money.
9At Sears last year I got a price match on an HDTV and then an additional 10% off. It was pretty sweet.
10Never had to do this myself...
11Does anyone know if Hot Topic does price adjustments? Thanks!
12DO NOT BUY FROM HOLLISTER. They do not do price adjustments on sale items!! Never again... items I bought from you haven't even arrived yet. I'd rather give those away. No way will I advertise your brand; your company sucks!! No matter which rep gets your email, you get the same LAME, generic email:
Hey (unvalued customer),
Since you've already had the opportunity to take advantage of our clearance section and purchase your merchandise at a marked down price, we're unable to provide any further discounts. As stated on our website, 'we only offer price adjustments for merchandise purchased at the original price.'
Thanks for shopping with Hollister.

I'm taking my money elsewhere!! YOU SUCK, HOLLISTER! No wonder your clothes keep getting marked down... nobody wants to buy them! I hope you go out of business for your lack of ethics.
