Kicking Post-It Notes to the Curb

Reader brisas wants suggestions on how to be electronically organized for our Professional Development Kick plan. Do you have any ideas for her?

I am pretty organized but also, I am a little old-fashion and still use post it notes. So needless to say my to do list is ever growing on each side of my laptop. I am computer savvy but have never really kicked the habit of paper lists. I have finally decided it was time to move my list from a stack of post-its to stickies in my computer. Any tips on staying organized or programs/websites you use to stay on top of your work load?

I adore crossing things off a to-do list, there is nothing more satisfying than to look over all the things I have accomplished at the end of the day! :) If you do find a good electronic alternative, let us know!

I have a two-step process for my to-do list. First, I keep everything in Outlook Tasks, complete with start and stop dates, reminders, categories, etc. And second, I have a Moleskine book that I use day-to-day for my daily to-do's. I searched long and hard for the write day planner, but couldn't find one that worked exactly as I wanted it to, so I created my own (see photo here: http://yfrog.com/3oqrlqj). For items that don't get done, I put a forward arrow and carry it over to the next day. The greatest satisfaction of all is putting a 'check' on completed tasks!

I love the physical act of crossing something off a to-do list. But what I do is use a piece of notebook paper. You can fit a lot more writing on it and it doesn't make clutter in the same way.

Sorry, can't offer a solution as I have the same problem. I enjoy crossing out list items once they're completed.

I am going to make this one of my goals as well. As much as I am an advocate of waste reduction, I can't seem to stop using paper TO DO Lists. Maybe it's the satisfaction I get from manually crossing out each item as I finish them.... I hope someone else responds with advice...I'd love to learn how to stay organized electronically as well!
