Jerry Seinfeld Microsoft Commercial: Hit or Miss?

Microsoft wasn't messing around when it landed on a $300 million number to fund a new advertising campaign starring Jerry Seinfeld. The first advertisement was recently released and it's gotten mixed reviews. Some ad-industry professionals are saying the commercial is a success because it's creating buzz about Microsoft, but others have said that it misses the mark and does nothing to change the brand's dull image.

So, Bill Gates is designing a new line of shoes called Conquistadors, right? Was that what this ad was for? Or is the Shoe Circus club card (or whatever it was) the new status symbol card because Bill Gates uses it? Seriously, what in the hell was that? If I was watching this on TV I would have changed the channel already (then changed it back to see if something better is on, then see that this ad is still running and change the channel again...)

...stupid enter key. i would like to know what firm microsoft hired for this because clearly their ad department needs a smack on the head for this one. it's far too long to keep anyone in their target audience interested.

i've seen it soo many times and i just don't get it. i know that Cripsin - the agency that did the creative is known for it's thought provoking work - but this is just too much since i'm not even sure what the point is. aside from a couple seconds of chit chat about the future of microsoft - i would have NO CLUE of the brand and would have just assumed that bill gates was finally endorsing something else.

They could have done so much better. It simply reinforces the "old daddy" feel of microsoft. focusing on the OLD here. completely non innovative. Even google is doing better than them (IE vs Chrome)!!

I'm just disappointed. I'm a huge fan of Microsoft, and I was really hoping they'd do something to poke back at Apple. This is sad, though.

I agree WTF? it made no sense but was not even funny or entertaining. About the worst commercial I have seen in a long time.

I think that "bigestivediscuit" put it best as WTF?!?!? I'm in I/T and I looked forward to seeing Microsoft take a lead in a new campaign to bolster their image; however this was NOT the way. If they're trying to catch up to Apple and grasp the young market, they need to get back to the drawing board. Talking about eatable computers with Bill Gates as he shakes his “sweet thang” is not really a good way to convey that message. I think there was a MUCH better and more creative way to spend $390M on an ad campaign.

BIG MISS! It was long and it wasnt untill I saw it for the third time did I realize what it was about. Bill Gate was actually funnier than Jerry.

I have watched it 4 or 5 times and I still can't figure out what they are advertising. Churros? Cheap shoes? That's what the whole thing concentrated on. It was cute but I think it totally missed the mark.
