I'm Asking: Is Your Company Hosting a Holiday Party?

Holiday party mania is in full swing — from ugly sweater parties, swanky galas, cookie swaps to good old fashioned company holiday soirees.

While the economy still has most companies on a tight budget, I suspect more offices will be decking the halls than last year. Are you gearing up for a company-hosted holiday or end of the year fete?

Anon, I work at a not for profit agency that provides family services (such as homemaker assistance and parenting classes) and foster care services. I'm a foster care case manager and work primarily with the foster families and foster children.

My company is not doing Christmas parties at any of our branches across the country this year, due to budget cuts. Doesn't bother me because I'm not a big fan of parties anyways. We'll probably do some crackers & cheese & beers on the half day we work on Christmas eve, and that suits me just fine.

We had a region-wide carry in lunch (about 30 people). It was also preparation for our foster families party so we had "stations" of things to get done. One table made single serve hot chocolate packages, another table wrapped gifts and the last table glued together popsicle sticks into frames for the kids to decorate. We listened to holiday music and ate all afternoon. The following week was the foster family party. All families brought a dish to share, we provided meat trays, someone dressed as Santa, my husband and I took pictures of the kids with Santa, and Santa distributed the gifts.

No company party this year; didn't have one last year either.

Yep, it's tonight. We have it at a hotel and they serve a nice dinner and have a DJ and some other form of entertainment. It should be pretty nice, I think. No free booze, so that always cuts down on the number of slobbering drunks that are there.

Yup - a luncheon on Monday afternoon. I'm a prosecutor so our holiday parties are really tame (no booze for government workers ;)) but it's nice to get out of the office for a few hours. Plus, then the State's Attorney lets us leave right after the party and go home early :)

Oh I hope not. We're a small company too (of 12), so it's usually a dinner at a fancy restaurant, not a party, but I so don't want to go. I like a lot of the people I work with, it's the people NOBODY likes that make no one want to do it. Our supervisor is such a b*tch and everyone is intimidated by the owner (actually the building's guard told me everyone in the building was scared of him) and one (married) guy is always perving on all the women. So it's just awkward and uncomfortable and I def. don't want to spend my free time with my supervisor!!!

Our company isn't having one- but the head of our department is taking us out to an English pub to get our drink on :-)

Nope. I work for a non-profit, and all groups like us took a really hard hit this past year. Instead of a company-wide shindig, each department is determining the level of celebration. My department went on a holiday lunch this week. Honestly, I prefer doing something smaller during the work day (yay, a couple of hours away from the grind!) rather than having to attend a party after work hours. More time after work where we'll talk about work? No thanks.

Nope. But we are a company of 3 people. We do get a nice Xmas bonus though. :)

Yep - we have a Christmas lunch in the Canteen downstairs, then the Christmas party which was at the Tate Britain Museum this year and another Christmas lunch at a restaurant out for the department. Woop woop!

Yup, one of the things I look forward to most each year! I work at a small company (15 people) and we're all really close, so we always end up doing something real fun! This year we are eating at a really nice restaurant (significant others invited as well), and then partying at a hotel and spending the night there. I can't wait!

Yes, but I never go. This year it is at someone's house, but it's usually at a restuarant.

We've cut wayyyy back to a catered lunch in the conference room. I'm actually happy though, everyone's so grumpy I wouldn't want to "party" with them anyway! :P

Since we are a very very small company (under 10 people) we are doing a holiday dinner at a very expensive steak house (so I;m pretty happy I get to eat- but not pay for- $60 steaks). :)

Yes. In addition to that, we just have our group dinner last night at a nice French restaurant. :)
