In discussing the relatability of Confessions of a Shopaholic, screenplay writer Kayla Alpert explained how the books spoke to her.
I think, you know, everybody has a secret addiction, some people’s are more extreme, some people are addicted to online poker, some people are addicted to shopping. A lot of women I know have, you know, soft addictions, I know I’m on Amazon.com a little more than I should be . . ."
I can completely relate to Kayla's comment (shopbop.com, anyone?) and I think labeling these innocent habits as "soft addictions" is pretty brilliant. What's yours?

Temperley London
It used to be designer handbags-Marc Jacobs especially, and MAC makeup but I've learned to control it now.
1Lip gloss. Ridiculous. But it's lip gloss.
2I'm addicted to magazines. I have probably 10 different magazines that I subscribe to and I read them every night to unwind. I still have a huge stack of them that I haven't read yet though. I'm also addicted to working out, I think...any day that I don't work out, I feel somehow inadequate and unsexy.
3Books and Sugar.
4On a side note, I think some people get "soft" addictions more easily than others. Some people just really have an addictive personality and they are prone to being addicted to certain things. I know my mom and I both have very addictive personalities...she's addicted to certain behaviors (like doing crossword puzzles. She does them RELIGIOUSLY) and has to have a lot of routines in her daily life or she gets cranky. But then there are people like my husband who isn't addicted to anything, even things he really likes. It's weird, but true.
5I have an online addiction....I am also totally addicted to TV and magazines. My other problem is that I can not turn away from a good sale. Like if something really great is on sale, but still expensive, I have to have it.
6Book buying and the Sugar sites (seriously)!
7J.Crew! It's unhealthy! And my wallet suffers.
8manicures
9I'm a compulsive shoe shopper.
10mine are being on blogs and pop culture. everyone who knows me agrees that i need to have a job in pop culture since it's my thing. if there's a magazine or a show or a blog, i'll be on it trying to find out the next new piece of information. i don't like speculation but i like the other pop culture stuff
11Sugar, food, internets
12Also, magazines, t.v. and books books books.
13ilanac, same with me! I'm LOVE online gossip blogs (i visit about four sites multiple times a day) and all my friends know that I am going to know the latest tidbit of info!
Also, I am addicted to buying face lotions. I am obsessed with anti-aging/anti-wrinkle creams, and I am only 22! lol
14the itunes store. i like to be entertained on the train.
eowynnie, i'm with you -- i have a soft j.crew addiction as well. i have to stay away!
15The news channel CNN. It's the only TV I watch. I knew I was addicted when one time, to cheer me up, my husband turned on CNN for me. Seriously. That sounds ridiculous, but that really happened.
16I don't know that I could narrow it down, because basically, I am seduced by all things pretty. I am definitely a shopaholic!
My favorite things to buy are beauty products, boots, cute little jackets, and I love love LOVE dresses.
17Chai, Books, and the Internet. I could live without tv if I had to.
18i tend go in phases. for a few months i couldn't get off of ebay, now i scour etsy for hours and could care less about ebay. i used to be a HUGE magazine person but when i realized how much i was spending buying them from the newsstand i kind of stopped. i'm a big shoppers (bags and shoes are my weakness) but i've been so broke lately i can usually control the urge to buy things. the only addiction i've never wavered from is target, especially clearance items at target. man, i see that red sticker and it is MINE!
19Black pants and anything on a 2 for 1 sale or on clearance at the grocery store.
20anthropologie. and not only buying clothes from there, just BEING in there. i even dream regularly about being in the store and just walking around and looking at things.
21The Internet. I'm hopelessly addicted.
22the internet
I'm also a shopoholic. I have a weak spot for shoes, clothes, and handbags.
asian drama/music - I'm hopelessly addicted. I can't stop. Right now, as I'm typing this, I'm listening to music.
the piano - That's one thing that I don't like about vacations: I'm away from my piano.
23Internet as well. I spend waay to much time online. Also music, but that's an addiction I intend to keep.
24too* much.
25Nail polish, I can't help it, I love it and *need* it!
26gadgets - i get exciting about every new hi tech comes out - especially cellphones
27the internet and books! and books can become an expensive habit, but books are "good" and are "your friend" so no one would ever say it was a bad thing to desire
28Gambling online is definitely not soft if it's connected to a credit card.
29Facebook is a soft addiction that wastes so much time
30Facebook, book shopping and panty shopping honestly lol.
31Magazines, socks, blankets (good lord do I have a lot of blankets), and Target brand Goldfish crackers!
32Ooh! And nail polish!
33sunglasses, shoes, and Victoria's Secret.
34i'm with you Savvy- shopbop all the way!
35the internet, but this weekend I was clean of it for quite some until of course, I fall back on (I literally had to catch up on nearly 20 pages of popsugar) I am working on cutting back
36lipgloss, bloghopping, shoes, and bags... im a shopaholic
37Oooh if I didn't control myself, it'd be books/stationery (nothing better than smooth paper and pretty notebooks)/shoes/accessories, esp HAIR accessories/cosmetics/lipglosses/sunglasses/CDs...
38The internet, Waching the Office and Family Guy.
39Pretty underthings. Give me more lacies, unmentionables and delicates! Its sad, but silky lol.
40internet. socks...yeah socks i always need a pair in my purse. lol
