I like the idea of picking a receipt keeper! It would be so much easier to do a big split in the end than to do it every single time you stop for something.

my husband and i went on a 40-day cross-country road trip recently...another way we saved was by finding a hotel chain located in almost every city, so we could join their rewards program...we wound up getting two nights free in the end...they also offered free breakfast and free internet, which helped, too...also, depending on the focus of your trip, joining AAA may be worth it, as well as getting a National Parks annual pass, both of which saved us tons of money
