Choose Your Charity Wisely
I gave you some tips on the smart way to donate when a natural disaster occurs, and I used some of them when I was trying to choose which nonprofit to support.
- Call the Charity: I wanted to know how much of my money will go to Japan so I called Save the Children and they told me 100 percent of my donations will go to relief efforts. You can easily access the nonprofits by phone, so I definitely recommend calling and asking them questions.
- Gauge Their Transparency: The chosen NGO gave us great updates on what they were doing, which is reflective of their transparency. The organization also has blog and video updates that shows the public exactly what they are doing in Japan.
- Verify Its Track Record: Make sure the nonprofit is trustworthy. Overall, Save the Children has shown that it is an organization that can be trusted through high ratings given by the American Institute of Philanthropy and Charity Navigator.
I was pretty happy with my pick and thought it suited the JustOneCrane theme perfectly because origami making is typically an activity for children.
