How Money Are You: Trip to the Grocery Store, Whole Foods

Trip to the Grocery Store is a fun way to see how prices vary around the country, the differences between similar offerings at various grocery stores, and a rough way of tracking grocery prices.

This week's questions come from my trip to a Whole Foods Market in Mill Valley, which is just outside San Francisco. I like to shop at Whole Foods for some of the fresh produce and staples I can't find at stores like Trader Joes. It can be pricey, (my best friend calls it Whole Paycheck), but I usually end up pleased with the quality of my goods. How money are you?

Zero here too. However this is at Whole Foods in San Francisco, and I shop at Super Wal-Mart in East Jesus, Alabama or the Publix supermarket near my office in Birmingham. Makes sense I would have no clue about what things cost. Instead of a quiz like this, it would be interesting to see what the groceries would have cost at a supermarket and then at a discount (read: Wal-Mart or Target.) If we're going to be "money" we might as well learn how to save on things, instead of shopping at Whole Paycheck.

ah, the whole foods salad bar...some of the stuff there is pretty tasty, but once realize you spent over $10 for a salad, it makes you think twice. i do shop there a lot, though...they are not so bad if you get items on sale or things from their store brand. they fill in the gaps in my pantry left by trader joe's and the asian supermarket. i buy flowers and plants on sale at whole foods, too. they also have the best prices on GT's kombucha and WholeSoy yogurt that i have seen anywhere!

Whole Foods, at least in my area, is now much more "spendy" than even the highest-end grociery stores. Not an option with gas prices. I've been buying store brands (and they are quite good!) and recyling everything that I can. This is the best I can do, and I am doing it! :)

they are beyond my reach for grocery shopping. Luckily our local grocery store has started a huge competator to them. They have as much organic, plus they have the regular stuff too. I get everything I need from a regular grocery store, and then all the good stuff I would get from whole foods. Plus I earn 10 cents off a gallon of gas for every $50 I spend.

As for prices I find it to be hit and miss. Somethings are the same as other stores such as their chocolate chips, rice, some veggies and many other things. I just have to be careful about sticking to my list.

It would be most helpful to have a picture of the product or at least a size of item you bought. I don't shop at Whole Foods, but I'm always curious about prices!
