Is It OK to Use Student Discounts If You're No Longer in School?

Mac laptops, $200 off, and 20 percent off monthly cell phone bills? Some of these student discounts almost seem too good to be true. Recently a sales person told me in confidence that he will let me use my student ID discount even though I graduated a year ago. I couldn't help thinking about the ethics behind doing so.

If you could enjoy student discounts even if you were long past the point of being a student, would you take advantage of them?

I AM still a student - I'm currently getting my PhD - but I've been refused student discounts twice in the last month because I'm too old! (Both times the reductions were only for students under 25 years old.) So I think if I ever get the opportunity to take advantage of student discounts once I've finished, I definitely will - just to make up for this :)

i still use my student id to get discounts; i graduated two years ago, but i occasionally take some classes at the community college so i'm technically still a student.

It feels like cheating the system or stealing. While it's sort of an ethical taboo and not necessarily illegal, I know that I personally don't feel right about it.

I graduated college in 2003 and still use my student ID to get the discout at the movie theater.
