One of my favorite finance shows Maxed Out hasn't been on the air in a while, and I may have found a new money-minded time-kill. Soapnet's Bank of Mom and Dad reality show, which airs Wednesday nights, focuses on 20-something women who are struggling with debt and have to let their parents move in and help them get back on track. Each woman's story is heart wrenching and disturbing — the debt numbers are especially troubling! — but it is rewarding to watch parents, with the help of a financial expert, reinforce a healthier relationship with money. There was a free episode on iTunes that I watched. I'm not even sure if I have SoapNet on my cable system but I should look for it to see more episodes of this show. At the very least it reminds me that I'm doing a lot of the right things to keep my finances in order and perhaps get a tip or two along the way.
1I don't get SoapNet, but have you checked out "Til Debt do us Part" on MSNBC? It's kind of like "Maxed Out" (it's even Canadian), but she gives the couples different challenges and if they complete them, they get $5000 towards paying off their debt. I really like it.
2Can you do recaps like you did with Maxed Out? I never got to watch the episode, but loved that youu did the recaps and the discussions that ensued.
3I haven't seen it, but I think it might annoy the crap out of me to see 20 somethings being irresponsible with money.
I'm the daughter of an i-banker and an accountant, though. I think I learned the rules as a kid and am probably lucky as a result.
4Lol... a friend of mine was on it... let me just say, it's not ENTIRELY accurate. More of a scripted reality show. Sorry.
5I liked the show, too bad the season finale was a couple of weeks ago. the season wasn't very long.
Some of the girls were ridiculous, i can't imagine thinking that my parents should pay for everything and i didn't have to pay for anything.
