Have You Ever Worked With a Recruiter?

Ever since my fiancé was laid off, he's been inundated with calls from recruiters located near and far. I've had mixed experiences with recruiters and have never actually gotten a job through their efforts, but I know some people who swear by recruiters as their preferred resource during a job search. Have you worked with a recruiter to help you find a job?

i have never used one, but my friends have gotten some great temporary jobs as translators from recruiters.

A recruiter contacted me while I was on my last cooperative education term at the place I work now. I was silly and young and the hiring prospects in my department were bleak, so I was looking for something else just in case. The recruiter took my resume from Monster and somehow managed to reach my boss at work (after I had specifically asked her NOT to call my current employer). She blabbed to my boss about the position, details that I didn't even know myself, such as that it was with a direct competitor! Then she called me and knocked $20k off the salary we had discussed prior. I am very wary of recruiters now.

I used to be an IT recruiter, it ate my life and my soul. It is a very competitive job and most will say anything to get your name and resume on their list.

I have but you have to be careful. Sometimes they put you forward for interviews even if you are unsuitable for the job or vice versa, so they look good to the client. They also send you on some crappy jobs (told I was working in customer-service call centre, actually ended up doing market research)... ...but I have got a few decent jobs out of them and I will be using recruiters once I gradute to find a permanent position.

Nope. Got all my jobs the old fashioned way --- you know, finding a listing on the Internet and submitting my documents electronically. :D

my fiance actually IS a recruiter - and times right now are really hard for him since soooo many companies are either on a hiring freeze or they aren't using recruiters really since there are so many applicants for each open position. for myself though, i've worked with recruiters, however they've never managed to get me a job. i've had so many people call me, and a few send me on a couple of interviews, but nothing's come of any of that. i guess it's ok though since i was never ACTIVELY looking for a new job when they contacted me, i would have only moved places if it was the right opportunity

No, I have always found my own jobs as well, but I had one awhile back that one of my college professors helped me find.

I put my resume on Monster.com or CareerBuilder.com. A head hunter/recruiter found my resume there and asked me to meet her to see if I might be interested in an opening she had. I've been at the job she connected me with for nearly 3 years now.

I am corporate recruiter. There's a difference between Corporate Recruiters and Head Hunters/Agency Recruiters. A corporate recruiter from a company that handles open head count is very different from one looking to make money off someone and get a finder's fee.

Yep, they got me my last three big jobs. My most recent last job was a nightmare because the recruiter lied to me about what the employer was willings to offer once I was permanent (no benefits, several thousand dollars less than what I was told, no real vacation days..ect). I was very careful about picking my next one and was so glad I did because the job I'm in now is working out great!

not a recruiter but an agency - so i was temporary for awhile and then become permanent from that
