Has the Economy Made You More of a Homebody?

The economic downturn has brought out the homebody in many Americans. According to ABC News, people are reading, knitting, watching TV, and dusting off old board games to have fun at home. Cheap entertainment is the name of the game. Has the recession caused you to stay in more often?

I'm a gamer, so I've always been a bit of a homebody. I'm just getting a bit bored with video games lately, and if I had the extra money, I would love to spend much more time out of the house.

Im a huge homebody, but Im turning into a hermit. I only go out for work, grocery shopping, and walking my precious pete...otherwise its cuddling in front of a good movie, or interneting.

My hubby and I are definitely spending less time out. Instead of going OUT to bars, it's a movie night IN with a movie rental, pop corn, a bottle of wine, and a few friends over at our place or theirs.

I used to be a homebody but since I got a promotion at work last month I have been going out more often - not during the week, but almost every Friday and Saturday I am out on the town.

i've definately noticed a change. i've recently graduated undergrad, am in grad school now at nyu and working but its so hard to do anything anymore without feeling guilty! happy hour is my jam, otherwise its hard to justify it. usually rather just get a bottle of wine and chill

I am a complete homebody, even before this recession started I rarely went out. I do not drink which helps considerably, and I have been a Blockbuster Online member forever, and i have even become an avid reader! :)

I've always been more of a homebody, but I am a bit moreso now. It's little things like stopping at Target after work. That's one of those places where I know I'll see something I want to buy, so I just resist temptation by avoiding the stop. I'll make a list over the week of things I actually need, cut coupons, and make one stop at a store to get what I need. I also don't go to as many movies since they are so expensive. Instead, I hang with friends and rent movies we missed in theaters. Last weekend, I babysat my cousin's young kids. I was gonna take them to ChuckECheese, but instead, I took them to Target, bought them each a small toy, some frozen pizzas and cokes, and some ice cream, then we went back home and played Wii, and it probably cost the same as going to CEC.

We go out just as much, but we are smarter about it. Instead of going out to dinner with friends we will meet up at the local coffee shop, where for $3 we can sit and talk all night. So we are saving about $20-30 every time we go out, but we still get to see our friends and be out of the house.

I'm not a homebody either and the recession hasn't caused me to change my habits. I love shopping, eating out, and of course spending time at my church. It's so exciting to be hanging out with friends.

I am not a homebody by nature - I love a good crowd and a loud smoky bar but with uncertaintly looming I have found myself making sweet love to my DVR and my stove! :)

not really. my fiance and i have pretty much always been homebodies. we go out to the movies one time a week and that's about all that we ever do.

I used to go out often, but in the past year I have become a homebody. I like to play the wii and watch movies and snuggle with my man!

I'm also kind of a homebody. We used to go for long drives on the weekends just to get out, but we've stopped doing that to save on gas money. We also dine out less.

Not really, but we do try not to eat out at restaurants as often. But we still get out and do things, whether it be just going for a drive or hanging out at a friends' house. We're not the kind of people who can sit at home too often.

Yeah, been spending more time at home, less because I'm trying to save money (I know tons of stuff to do cheap) but because its really cold somenights now (and I love walking around aimlessly or not freezing to death waiting for the train or bus)

I became a homebody not due to the recession, but due to my goal to save up as much money as possible. Now everything I do involves weighing opportunity costs.

I'm a homebody, too...so's my husband. We've always liked spending time at home, cuddled up with a good movie and cooking our own food. We love cheap entertainment and always have, LOL.

no, not really i haven't changed my habits too much i'm half a homebody half not...i love a night out, dinners at restaurants, but also love to cuddle at home and cook dinner

Yes, I stay in more often now. Less meals out, less time at bars. Now when I go out, it tends to be more during the day as activities and meals are cheaper than in the evening.

I'm more of a homebody so no not really. I'd much rather cook than eat out and don't drink sooooo...and as far as movies and such there's been nothing worth seeing in awhile. If it wasn't 30 degrees here I would def be out more often, just enjoying the evening summer weather.
