When you work 40 to 50 hours a week finding free time for volunteer efforts can start to feel like a luxury.
In the past I've underestimated what I have to offer charities or nonprofits, but it's clear that just a few hours can help understaffed organizations provide their basic service: helping those who need it. Are you able to regularly find time to "volunteer" for money or even just the sake of giving back to your community?

Yes, it is like my second job. I work on various project throughout the year.
1Yes, I volunteer at the hospital and couldn't be happier.
2I work for a GE company, so we're able to volunteer during work hours. We just have to make sure we report our hours, as well as get manager's approval before we agree to volunteer.
But my work has been so demanding that I haven't had the time. Last week, I volunteered for the first time and it felt so rewarding. And now that I've signed up to our volunteer module, I've been getting email updates of more volunteer opportunities within my community....
I plan to do more volunteering next month. I've already told my boss and she's agreed to not assign me to many hours. We also have an opportunity to go to Mexico to build homes. Unfortunately, that one will interfere with my school schedule. I wish I could go though.
3I spent lots of my time during college doing community service, and definitely did some volunteering this past year at my job. However, I definitely have had less time and having to drive everywhere to volunteer has been tough with gas prices so high. When I go back to school this fall though, I definitely foresee myself doing a lot of service again and I am excited about this prospect!
4I haven't volunteered yet, but i'm thinking about volunteering for an animal shelter soon. I just cant decide which one.
5i volunteer monthly at our art museum and will be joining girl scouts again very soon as an asst troop leader. i also participate in workplace volunteer events when ever i can. i love giving back. it's a great way to contribute and make a difference.
6I've volunteered with a dog rescue group every Sunday for the last six years. My boyfriend has been doing it for four years now too. Even though we both work 40+ hours a week, we still make time to put aside a few hours on the weekend for this. Volunteering is good for the world and the soul.
7No, I currently do not volunteer, but I would like to. There are many weekends where I feel like I'm doing nothing at all for hours that could be better spent.
8I volunteer at my daughter's school. I have volunteered with hurricane relief in the past.
9Admittedly, we are expected (not required) to for work. But my goal is to do volunteer work this year that isn't related to my job.
