Do You See Your Wedding as an Opportunity to Splurge?

Some brides allow themselves to go all out by spending more than they normally would, like buying full-priced Manolos to wear under their dress when they normally wouldn't think of spending that much on shoes. Do you (or did you) see your wedding as an opportunity to splurge?

so for those of you that splurged and are now divorced, how do you feel about spending the money now? and when you get remarried will you spend the same way? i think part of the reason i'm so down on big weddings is because i worked for a divorce attorney for a couple of years. the HORRIBLE things people did to each other during a divorce freaked me out. as if i didn't want to jinx things by making to big of a deal out of of the wedding..

I actually bought those exact Manolos in silver for my wedding dress. I ended up not being able to wear them because I tore ligaments in my knee 2 weeks before my wedding and had to wear flats... now I have the silver Sedarabys in their box in my closet..

I didn't go overboard. I would spend more on something I loved but probably not on something like shoes that I would never be able to wear again. I'd spend more on makeup and things like wedding photos that could be used again or would last forever.

In fact, I got exactly the shoes in the pictures (in white) from Aldo for about $80 (three years ago). They're gorgeous.

My splurge was on my wedding dress which I LOVE and found on my first visit to the bridal shop with my mom. Oh and my older brother foot the bill.

in indian culture, the bride gets this huge trousseau from her parents side, including traditional indian clothes (super fancy ones for parties and regular ones for home), bags, shoes, a luggage set, makeup, lingerie (which dad blindly hands his cc for, staying a mile away from said store lol) etc. the husbands side (at least in my case) brings the actual wedding dress, down to the matching shoes, purse and even lingerie, along with a few super fancy outfits. so thats the 'splurge' i had, its like a gift from your parents and in laws.

No, it was the complete opposite for me. I chose not to have a wedding. :) Speaking only for myself, I made the choice that was right and good for me. For me to spend that kind of planning and large sums of cash, it would have to be for a home purchase (and it has to be a good property, too). And that's what I did. (Even then, I made sure our property was purchased below market value, and had plenty of equity).

My dress was my splurge...almost $600, everything else was cheap. I still love my dress!

I certainly didn't splurge, but my wedding dress wasn't super cheap (it was about $800). At the same time though, I didn't go overboard, and my shoes were simple flats so I knew I'd be comfortable.

My dress which was $1000, was really my only splurge, I worked really hard to make everything else work so I could get the dress that I wanted.

I forgot to mention that my shoes were neon pink, so everyone noticed them! I thought the outrageous price was completely justified :)

I did I destination wedding which saved TONS of money on things that would normally be quite expensive. Because I was married in Hawaii we didn't need to go overboard on flowers (and I was much happier with the local orchids and plumerias than roses) and because we only had 30 people we saved on catering. Because I saved all the money on regular wedding costs, I splurged on bridesmaid/groomsmen gifts and I bought myself Louboutins to wear.

I didn't really think of my wedding as an excuse to splurge. I really tried to save money wherever I could. The only thing I really splurged on was my photographer. He was absolutely amazing and we got some seriously awesome wedding photos from him...definitely better than just having some relative or friend snapping pics on their digital cameras.

Minus the dress it's perfectly possible to find nice things that aren't insane in cost.

The only thing I splurged on was my dress. I had a nice $600 dress picked out. Then, I fell in love with another dress that was more expensive, and my mom was the one who urged me to get the more expensive one. I'm glad she did. :)
