If you're a fan of Friends like I am, you might remember that Rachel Green is a notorious gift exchanger. Almost always when gifted a present from friends or family, Rachel rushed to exchange it for something she really wanted.
Obviously, her little exchanging operation backfired more than a couple times, when she was called out for being insensitive and rude by more than one of her five closest pals. Of course, in Rachel's defense, if the gifts were truly going to waste, an exchange was probably a good way to ensure that the gifter's money wasn't totally lost on something that was never going to be used. But, if the giver ever asks to see you wear the scarf she gave you, and all you have to show for it are the new earrings you traded the scarf in for? Well, then you might be in trouble.
Sure, exchanging might be a thrifty way to get yourself what you actually wanted for Christmas, but does that mean you do it? Tell me, do you exchange to get what you really want or maybe even something you need?

I normally don't exchange x-mas presents because most people know that I am really picky and don't buy me things. However, this year I will be exchanging some skin products that my husband and daughter bought me because it was for the wrong skin type.
1No, I don't exchange gifts I was given because I am really sentimental that way--I don't want to offend the people who've taken the time to pick out things for me personally.
2Yes I do. My family always gives gift receipts along with the gift.
3It depends on the giver but I have been known to exchange a gift if it doesn't fit.
4I don't typically do this. Reasons being that I usually really do LIKE what people give me as gifts. Even though something might've not been the particular color or model I would've picked, I usually end up really loving the gifts. I guess I haven't had a terrible gifting experience yet.
5When I gift things, I tend to put in a return receipt just in case the recipient wants to exchange the gift and that's OK. I think it's totally tacky when the recipient tells you flat-out that they'll be returning the gift, though. I'd prefer if they kept those details private and just accepted the gift graciously!
It really depends on the gift and whether I can get away w/it. For instance, my best friend made me a wreath for my door. So, even tho' it is not my taste, I will keep it as she will be looking for me to use it.
6But a gift of candy, I might regift to someone else.
No
7I do! And i'm not afraid to admit it! i mean why keep a something that you're never going to use? i would rather exchange it for something that i like.
8I've never exchanged a gift.
9yes - i do - because it def makes more sense to have something that i'll use than to have the clutter.
10it depends on who gave me the gift, if it was someone really close to me i wouldnt exchange it, but ive got presents from distant family members that i've exchanged with someone else, not in front of the giftgiver of course.
11I did this once. A friend of mine got me a Wii Game that I didn't care for. However, she gave me the gift receipt, so I figured it was okay to exchange it. I don't think she'd be offended.
